Relax, it’s vacation time
Lovleen Bains

Doraha, June 4
Vacation is the best period for teachers to feel free. If for some it is the time to ‘eat, drink and make merry,’ for others it means making the best use of it and attending to their household and other unfinished homely tasks. While some sit and relax, others make optimum use of their time by attending computer classes or for that matter, join various hobby classes or personality development programmes.

Mrs Navdeep Kaur, who is a teacher at Tagore International Senior Secondary School, believes that it is time to keep all tensions away and attend to your family and home. I relax to the maximum as this is the time when you are not time bound and under any pressure. I eagerly wait for this part of the year when we normally plan a vacation in the hills and leave behind the tensions and worries of my professional life.”

Prof Kuldip Singh of GNN college, Doraha, feels," If you are all the time engrossed in one activity or the other during working days, then this is the time when you can just take it easy. As my wife too is a lecturer in a local college, we plan our vacations accordingly . If this is the time to relax, then we can utilise it by doing some leisure reading, continuing with research work or indulging in similar activities.”

Prof Jaipal Singh, general secretary, PGCTA and his wife Surinder Pal Kaur are in the teaching profession for whom the vacation mean a time to be free but at the same time occupied. Prof Jaipal Singh said,”I think our duty as a teacher never stops. During vacation the body gets time to relax but the mind should keep on pondering over one issue or the other. For me it is the befitting time to think about the state of present education and the crisis through which the intellectuals are passing. This is the time to chalk out our future yearly strategies and discuss it among ourselves.

Mrs Gursharan Kaur, lecturer in a local college, was eagerly looking forward to the vacation as she is going to visit Singapore and meet her relatives and friends.”

Mrs Sangeeta Arora, a teacher at a local school, says,”I have joined computer classes as they are a must for your academic growth. I have decided to become a computer literate during these vacations . Moreover, I have joined hobby classes too and wish to utilise my free time qualitatively .

“Mrs and Mr Sukhwinder Virk, who are both in teaching job feel,”it is holiday time and should be taken in that spirit. We prefer to enjoy to the maximum with our children. Majority of the times we go on long drives, meet our friends and visit certain tourist spots. Why should be burden ourselves even at this time of the year? We wish to run away from the daily hectic schedule and the tensions and worries that come along.”

Prof Mohinder Kaur, however, prefers to stay indoors. “In the working days we have to move out under compulsion but it is this holiday time when you can stay back and relax in the most informal way. I believe in doing nothing and enjoying the maximum by staying at home," she adds.

Prof Amarjit Kaur feels," It is the time when I pay social visits that had been kept pending for a long time. Moreover, I attend to my child who most of the times feels neglected due to my involvement in my profession”.

Bar meeting witnesses rowdy scenes
Our Legal Correspondent

Ludhiana, June 4
A meeting of the District Bar Association (DBA) today witnessed rowdy scenes when a number of young lawyers while levelling allegations of “dictatorial attitude’’ against the Bar president, Mr B.K. Goel, walked out of the meeting and staged a dharna outside the bar room at the district courts complex.

The lawyers also decided to move no-confidence motion against the secretary of the DBA, Mr Rana Harjasdeep Singh, terming his behaviour as irresponsible towards members of the association.

The situation became tense when Mr Sandeep Kapoor tried to stop the agitators and allegedly called them “goondas” of the bar. Lawyers raising slogans got infuriated and pushed Mr Kapoor. However, with the intervention of certain lawyers the situation was prevented from turning bad.

Mr David Gill, Mr Parminder Pari, Mr Shashi Kant Verma, Mr Vijay Sharma, Mr R.P. Rawal and Mr Vikram Grover accused the president for not considering the names of 13 lawyers proposed by them for being included in the chambers committee constituted for looking after the construction of Yadwindra lawyers chambers complex, the foundation stone of which was laid down by Capt Amarinder Singh a few days back.

These lawyers claimed that they had moved a requisition signed by around 200 members of the Bar for convening the meeting of the general house of the DBA. But a notice was pasted on the notice board that only those lawyers who had applied for chambers in Yadwindra lawyers chambers complex would be allowed to attend the meeting, the agitating lawyers added.

They claimed that instead of considering the list of lawyers proposed by them, the Bar president proposed the names of 10 lawyers allegedly close to him, which was not acceptable to them.

The DBA president could not be contacted despite repeated calls on his cell phone as it was switched off. Moreover, he was not available at his residence.
