Steps to regulate parking of vehicles
Ludhiana, May 27 Issuing interim orders on a civil writ petition filed by the Traders and Property Owners Association in Feroze Gandhi Markets here, the double bench of Chief Justice Mr D.K. Jain and Mr Justice Hemant Gupta asked the administration to examine the possibility of providing a particular area for this purpose on Sundays and other days when these particular markets observed weekly holiday. Taking a serious note of mismanagement of parking lots by the contractors in the city, the Hon’ble High Court directed the Superintendent of Police (Traffic) to look into the difficulties being faced by the residents on account of poor management and overcrowding of parking lots. “No extra vehicles beyond the capacity of the parking lots are parked therein. Proper sign board shall be put up at each of the parking lot, clearly indicating its parking capacity. If it is found that any parking lot has more than its notified capacity, it will be viewed seriously and Superintendent of Police (Traffic) shall be personally held responsible for this negligence,” the bench observed. Asked to comment on the intended action to be taken on the directions of the Hon’ble High Court, the deputy commissioner Mr Anurag Verma told Ludhiana Tribune that modalities to implement the court orders were being discussed in coordination with all concerned departments. He, however, maintained that the directions would be strictly implemented in the given time frame and the administration would submit ‘action taken report’ on the next date of hearing of the petition on July 27. |
