De-addiction camp organised

Chandigarh, May 5
A 10-day de-addiction camp was organised at Brahmin Sabha, Kajheri village under the District Mental Health Programme by the Department of Psychiatry, GMCH Sector 32 in collaboration with the village panchayat concluded yesterday.

The psychiatrists, psychologists, medical social workers and staff nurses of the GMCH-32 provided the patients’ care and the treatment. As many as 71 patients were examined at the camp, of which 22 were admitted for treatment of substance abuse disorder.

New OPD hours of GMCH-32

Chandigarh, May 5
OPD hours of the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32 will be advanced during the two-month summer vacations from May 16 to July 15.
Under new hours, the OPD registration will be from 7 am to 10 am and OPD hours will be from 8 am to 2 pm.

Anupam scores 112 runs

A superb unbeaten century by Anupam Gambhir (112 n.o. off 108 balls) helped the Chandigarh District team to consolidate its position against Ludhiana in the Under-17 inter-district M. L. Markan Cricket Trophy at the Punjab Cricket Association grounds, here today.

Earlier, Ludhiana won the toss and put Chandigarh to bat first. Chandigarh’s openers played sensibly and scored 107 runs for the first wicket. The 112 runs by Anupam made the team’s position strong. At the end of the day, Chandigarh was at 401 for 9 in 90 overs, while Ludhiana was playing at 3 for no loss.

Sampada wins AITA tournament

Vijayant Malik of Chandigarh had an easy win over Bikram Reddy of Andhra Pradesh in straight sets 6-4, 6-3 in the finals of Boys’ Under-16 (singles) of AITA Super Series Tennis Tournament held at CLTA Sector 10, here today.

It was a one-sided affair in the Girls’ Under-16 (singles) category between the Delhiite duo Sweta Solanki and Shalini Sahoo who won 6-2, 6-3. Sampada Kanade of Maharashtra snubbed the challenge posed by Vishaka Sheoran and ultimately won the finals in Under-18 singles tie at 5-7, 6-2,7-5.

Results:

Boys Under-16 (singles): Vijayant Malik (Chandigarh) beat Bikram Reddy (AP) 6-4, 6-3. In the Girls Under-16 (singles) Sweta Solanki (Delhi) beat Shalini Sahoo (Delhi) 6-2, 6-3.

Boys Under-18 (singles): Saketh M. Sai (AP) beat Gursher Singh Harika (Chandigarh) 6-1, 3-6, 6-1.

Girls Under-18 (singles): Sampada Kanade (Maharashtra) beat Vishaka Sheoran (Delhi) 5-7, 6-2, 7-5. Girls Under-16 (doubles): Niroshita Madanala and Sushrutha Reddy (AP) beat Preethi Srinivasan and C. Rajeshwari (TN) 6-0, 6-2.

Boys Under-16 (doubles): Vijayant Malik and Shiva Sangwan (Chandigarh) beat Christopher Marques and Gaurav Walia (Maharashtra) 6-2, 6-2. Girls Under-18 (doubles): Vishaka Sheron and Sweta Solanki (Delhi) beat Inayat Khosla and Isha Toor (Chandigarh) 7-5, 1-6, 6-3. TNS

Minerva Academy wins

Chandigarh, May 5
Minerva Academy continued their winning spree by beating defending champions Chetna Cricket Club by a huge margin of 90 runs in the first Ashok Kumar Memorial Cricket Tournament - 2005, held at Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 19, here yesterday.

Saida Khan’s sparkling century (110 runs in 32 balls) enabled Minerva Academy grabbing the match. Harpreet Sunny continued the assault with Rocky Ratta who scored 51 off 20 and 58 off 28 balls, respectively.

The Chetna squad could not respond under such enormous pressure to chase this mammoth total and were bowled out at 170 in 19 overs.
