2 ARRESTED: Ashwani Kumar of Godam Mohalla inside Hathi Gate was arrested with 162 gm of smack here on Thursday. A case under Sections 22, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act has been registered. In another case Tejinder Singh was arrested with a pistol and a stolen truck.

GENERAL MANAGER: Er Baldev Singh, Chief Engineer, Guru Nanak Dev Thermal Plant (GNDTP) has been promoted to the post of General Manager, GNDTP.

PROMOTED: Mr S.S. Sangha, Engineer, Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB), had been promoted to the rank of Engineer-in-chief, PSEB. He had been working with PSEB for the past about 35 years.

Promoted: Mr Baldev Singh, Chief Engineer, Guru Nanak Dev Thermal Plant (GNDTP), has been promoted to the post of General Manager. He joined the GNDTP as apprentice engineer in 1969. Mr S.S. Sangha, Engineer, Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB), has been promoted to the rank of Engineer-in-Chief. He has been working with PSEB for the past about 35 years.

Judge bereaved:
The father of Mr Mahinderpal, Judge, died at the age of 79. He is survived by two sons and a daughter. His ‘bhog’ would take place at Gurdwara Mitha Tiwana in Hoshiarpur on May 1.

FATEHGARH SAHIB
MC ELECTIONS: The much awaited elections for the post of senior vice president and vice president of the Municipal Council, Sirhind-Fatehgarh Sahib, has been fixed for May 2. Mr S.K. Ahluwalia, Deputy Commissioner, has issued notice to the Executive Officer in this regard and directed him to inform all the councillors in time.

Case registered:
On a complaint of Ms Rajinder Kaur of Sarhala village, the police registered a case under section 7-13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988, against Karamjit Singh, ASI posted at the Gardhiwala Police Station on Thursday. Rajinder Kaur had alleged that the ASI took Rs 3.20 lakh from her in 2004 to get a case against her husband closed.

APPOINTED: In view of the coming Municipal Council elections in Nangal subdivision of the district, the BJP district unit appointed Mr Indersen Chhatwal election in charge on Thursday. This was stated by the president of the district unit of the BJP, Mr Vijay Kumar Puri. He said 11 more units of the BJP at various subdivisions were constituted.

ELECTED: Mr Karanjit Singh Bedi has been elected president of the college unit of the Panjab and Chandigarh College Teachers Union whereas Mr Dilbag Singh and Mr Daljit Singh have been elected delegates.

COMPUTER STOLEN: A computer set of Sri Guru Har Krishan Public School, Bhangala, was stolen on Wednesday. A case under Sections 457 and 380, IPC, has been registered.

CHANDIGARH

INAUGURATED: The new air-conditioning plant at the Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association complex was inaugurated on Friday by Rana K.P. Singh, Parliamentary Secretary, Punjab. With the commissioning of the project, all the Bar rooms and the Bar Association library have been air-conditioned.

ORGANISED: Servants of People Society organised a one-day refresher training programme for the staff of the targeted intervention project for awareness and prevention of HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted diseases among the high-risk population of Maloya and Kajheri colonies on Friday.

EXAMINED: More than 800 students were examined at the eye screening and check-up camp organised by the Society For Care Of The Blind jointly with the GMCH, Sector 32 at Government High School, Bapu Dham on Friday. The children with defective vision were prescribed spectacles and thorough check-up.

HARYANA

Sonepat
CLASHES: Three persons, including two women, were injured in clashes at Khewra, Kabirpur and Rasulpur villages in this district on Friday. The police has started investigation into the clashes. However, no arrest has been made.

INJURED: Vikas of Teha village was injured when he was hit by a Roadways bus near Teha village, about 15 km from here, on Friday. He was taken to the local Civil Hospital where doctors referred him to PGIMS, Rohtak. The bus driver has absconded.

RAIDED: Officials of the Health Department conducted raids at various establishments here on Friday and took samples of packaged water and gutka. A number of complaints about the sale of sub-standard food stuffs and ice had been lodged with the department.

SUICIDE BID: Krishna of Panipat reportedly made an attempt to commit suicide here on Friday. She was admitted to the hospital.

FODDER BURNT: Fodder worth several thousands of rupees was burnt in a fire at Ghasauli village, about 25 km from here, on Thursday. In another fire incident a tractor trailer was destroyed at Mahavati village, about 20 km from here.

ARRESTED: The city police on Thursday claimed to have arrested six youths on the charge of impersonation and cheating after they were found appearing in the annual examinations of the Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak, and the Board of School Education, Haryana. They were identified as Sandeep of Mundlana village, Vikki of Nagar, village , Gohana, Somveer of Lath village, Dalbir of Kararti village, Vijay of Melseri Khera village in Jind district and Sanjeet of Kathure village.

HIMACHAL PRADESH

Bilaspur
HOUSE TAX: The local Elder Citizens Association has urged the state government to pass orders for waiving house tax for the residents of Bilaspur town by the Nagar Parishad. As such declarations were repeatedly made by local MLA Tilakraj Sharma and Forest Minister Ramlal Thakur in this regard. A resolution to this effect was passed at a meeting of the association, presided over by Col A.P. Gautam (retd) here, on Thursday.

Kulu
EYE CAMP: An eye camp will be organised at the Eye Hospital, Raison, in this district from May 9 to 18 by the National Society of Prevention of Blindness. A team of doctors from AIIMS, Delhi would conduct operations and medicines, lenses (IOL) and glasses will be provided to the patients free of cost. This was stated by Mr S.K. Nayyar, general secretary of the society.

Nahan
INAUGURATED: The Speaker, Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha, Mr G.R. Musafir, on Thursday laid the foundation stone of an Ayurvedic dispensary at Dahan Rajgarh subdivision, Sirmaur. He also inaugurated recently constructed portion of high school there. The Speaker announced to upgrade the school upto the high school level. He sanctioned Rs 5 lakh for the school building. At badhawdhar, he announced to launch a regular bus service from badhawdhar to Rajgarh. At Bhanat, he announced Rs 1 lakh for water-augmentation facility and asked the Horticulture Department to construct two water tanks, for irrigation purposes.
