Apartment Rules not to change skyline: DC
Tribune News Service

Chandigarh, April 29
The Deputy Commissioner, Mr Arun Kumar, said that in light of the Apartment Rules notified in 2001 the apprehension that these rules may change the skyline of the city was unfounded as the Apartment Rules did not allow any relaxation in terms of height or covered area.

The Estate Officer said that the objective of the Apartment Rules was to create independent legal owners and not to raise revenue or disrupt the skyline of the city.

He said that the Apartment Rules were notified to facilitate the legal partition of property and vest individual units with a legal identity and rights. The procedure involved in this was very simple. The rates for conversion are Rs 10 per sq feet of the built up area in case of residential and institutional buildings while for sub-division of commercial buildings the prescribed fee is Rs 20 per sq feet payable on the maximum allowed built space in each case.

However, the normal partition of a property did not cost any conversion charges.
