Women boxers excel in international meet
Chandigarh, April 29 The event was held from April 20 to 25 in which 16 teams from Turkey, Italy, Romania, Poland, Bulgaria, Greece, Vietnam, France, India and Kazakisthan participated. Mr Jerath, who is also the Secretary, Chandigarh Amateur Boxing Association, said on his return here that India fielded eight-member boxing team under 13 different weight categories. Jyotsna of Haryana and P. Boro of Assam won the silver medals while Seema (Haryana), A Misra (Jharkhand), Lekha (Kulu) came back home with a bronze medal each. The Indian team was accompanied by a woman coach Neelam Punia from Haryana. “The air fare and other expenses were borne by the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of India,” Mr Jerath said. |
Shishu Niketan, Jawahar Navodya in last four
Chandigarh, April 29 Among boys St Soldier School-28, Shishu Niketan School-22, Jawahar Navodya (A team) and Jawahar Navodya ( B team) found berth in the last eight. The event was inaugurated by Mr Sukhdeep Singh Grewal, Director, St. Joseph’s Senior Secondary School. The final match of the championship will be played tomorrow at 4 pm. |
Chandigarh scores 238 in Ist innings
Mohali, April 29 Patiala won the toss and put Chandigarh to bat. Chandigarh faced a jolt when their opener Manan Vohra was out at 20 runs. However, the contribution of captain Shivam Khurana (47) and Avinash (39) enabled the team to reach at 238. Robin Dhillon and Mohit Mohindra of Patiala took three wickets each. Carrom meet from May 14
Chandigarh, April 29 During this four-day meet men and women singles, boys and girls singles (junior) and boys and girls singles (sub-junior) categories will be conducted. In the junior and sub-junior categories, the players below the age of 18 years as on December 31, 2005, and below-14 years as on September 31, 2005, respectively, will be eligible to participate. The last date for the entries is May 9. Interested players may remit entries with Mr W. Willmer, organising secretary at St Stephen’s School, Sector 45, or Mr D.S. Pay tax today, get 10 per cent rebate
Chandigarh, April 29 Depositors can deposit the amount in two installments also. The first installment is required to be paid by April 30 and the second by October 30. The payees will avail a concession of 5 per cent on both occasions. Departments of the Union Government, UT Administration and the state governments have also been asked to make the deposits at the Oriental Bank of Commerce, Sector 17. The office of the corporation will remain open tomorrow. |

Apartment Rules not to change skyline: DC
Chandigarh, April 29 The Estate Officer said that the objective of the Apartment Rules was to create independent legal owners and not to raise revenue or disrupt the skyline of the city. He said that the Apartment Rules were notified to facilitate the legal partition of property and vest individual units with a legal identity and rights. The procedure involved in this was very simple. The rates for conversion are Rs 10 per sq feet of the built up area in case of residential and institutional buildings while for sub-division of commercial buildings the prescribed fee is Rs 20 per sq feet payable on the maximum allowed built space in each case. However, the normal partition of a property did not cost any conversion charges. |
