Choe bridge stone laid

MCPI opposes privatisation

The Punjab state committee of the Marxist Communist Party of India (MCPI) has opposed the policy of privatisation being pursued by the Congress-led government in Punjab. It alleged that by handing over several key departments like electricity board, health and education to the private sector, the government was running away from its basic duties of providing infrastructure and amenities to the people.

Wheat procurement picks up
Ludhiana, April 20
Thanks to the better quality of grain, farmers are getting the right price for the wheat they are bringing to the mandis. The procurement of wheat is already in full swing. With over seven lakh tonnes of wheat already having been procured in the district so far, it is all set to cross the last year’s procurement figures.

Low yield of wheat expected, says mandi board chief

“Expected arrival of wheat in mandis of Punjab is 100 lakh tonnes which is 7 lakh tonnes less than the last year”, said Mr Sukhbinder Singh Sukhsarkaria, Chairman, Mandi Board Punjab, during a press conference organised at Market Committee office here recently.

Football trials postponed

Trials to select the Ludhiana football team (u-19 years) scheduled to be held today at Guru Nanak Stadium have been postponed. According to Mr Shivtar Singh Bajwa, president District Football Association, Ludhiana, the trials have been postponed due to some unavoidable circumstances.
