251 examined at eye check-up camp

Chandigarh, April 17
As many as 251 patients were examined at an eye check-up camp organised by the Tribune Youth Club at Tribune Model School, Sector 29 here today. Doctors Sandeep Jha, Raman Bedi, Dipinder Singh and Sachinder Kaur from Sohana Eye Hospital examined the patients at the camp. Special emphasis was on diagnosis of cataract, glaucoma, vitro-retina treatment and lasik surgery. In addition to eye check-up, ECG tests, blood and urine tests were also done.

Red Cross society first-aid training course from tomorrow

Chandigarh, April 17
The UT Red Cross Society has restructured first-aid training and the first course will be held on April 19. Training will be given in two shifts — from 10 am to 12 noon and from 2 pm to 4 pm — for two weeks at Karuna Sadan Building, Sector 11-B, Chandigarh.

Fee for training will be Rs 400 per person and it will include physical training course material and fee for tests. Deputy Commissioner-cum-Chairman (Red Cross Society) Arun Kumar launched the training manual developed by the society. The manual will be supplied free of cost to all trainees, all government schools and Police Control Room (PCR) vehicles involved in emergency relief. It had been decided to provide first-aid kits to all PCR vehicles to help them serve the people better.

A practical training to handle burn cases, bandage, artificial respiration, transportation of injured persons, handling of heart attack cases, head injuries, emergency aid in schools, first-aid to victims of road accident, victims of snakebites shall also be given.

81 donate blood

As many as 81 persons including a woman donated blood at a camp organised by residents of the area at Vikash Filling Station, here today. The camp was organised with the assistance of a team of doctors from the PGI, Chandigarh.

Earlier, Mr Vasdev Madan, general secretary of the District Congress Committee, inaugurated the camp and motivated people to donate blood.

Artin, Inderjot emerge winners

Artin Kumar of Chandigarh gave a straight set defeat to another local lad Pargun Virjark 6-0, 6-2 in the boys’ under-14 All-India Talent Search Tennis Series organised by Yadvindra Public School, being held at CLTA Stadium, Sector 10, here today.

In the second round of boys’ under-16 match, Inderjot Singh of Punjab upset Prabhjot Singh of Chandigarh easily at 8-0.

In another tie between Karan Bhai and Shalinder Rathore, both of Chandigarh, under the same category, Shalinder could not rally the challenge posed by Karan and lost at 1-6,1-6.
