MC accused of selective demolitions

With only a few hours left for the local Municipal Corporation to present the action taken report in the High Court against the alleged encroachers, residents today accused the civic body of ‘‘selective action’’ claiming that it ‘‘spared the rich and influential’’ and demolished the structures of the poor.

DGP assures early arrest of accused

Mr SC Jain, the Director General of Police Railways, Punjab today asserted that those railway employees accused of assaulting three scribes here on April 4 would be arrested at the earliest. He said, the railway police had already conducted some raids at several places.

With harvesting near, migrant labourers most sought after

DC’s directions on solid waste management

Deputy Commissioner, Anurag Verma today directed Executive Officers of all municipal committees to ensure the proper management of solid waste in the cities and towns of the district on a priority basis and arrange for land-fill sites.

Bank takes over defaulters’ properties

Canara Bank took possession of the properties of M/s B.L. Khosla Hosiery and M/s Mangat Mills due to default in the repayments of loans. Bank officials informed that parties were given 60 day’s notices in June and September respectively.

Arjuna awardee Kartar Singh, Director, Sports Punjab, has been unanimously elected senior vice-president of the Punjab Kabaddi Association. According to Mr G.S. Malhi, honorary general secretary, PKA, Mr Kartar Singh was elected during the general body meeting of the association held at Guru Nanak Stadium here recently.

Even as the spurious BT cottonseeds have been flooding markets in the cotton belt of Punjab, the state agriculture Department authorities are yet to procure kits to test the genuineness of the seeds being sold to the unsuspecting farmers.

Training camp for students held

Ananda Marga School, New Kundanpuri,Civil Lines, Ludhiana, had organised a voluntary training camp for students which concluded on Tuesday. Students from entire Punjab had participated in the camp for various training programmes such as yoga, judo, karate and many other skills.

Admn gears up for pulse polio drive
Ludhiana, April 7
To ensure that polio drops all children up to the age of five years under the intensified Pulse Polio Immunisation Campaign 2005 in the district on national immunisation days on April 10 and May 15, arrangements have been made, said Deputy Commissioner Anurag Verma.
