Punjab passes VAT Bill with concessions

Amid a walkout by BJP and SAD MLAs in protest against the non-acceptance of amendments moved by them, the state Assembly today passed the Punjab Value Added Tax Bil, 2005, after incorporating significant amendments in the original draft introduced in the House on March 25.

The annual general house session of the SGPC today passed a Rs 256 crore budget amidst a symbolic boycott staged by members from Haryana, the Panthic Morcha and the sole independent member from Chandigarh at Teja Singh Samundari Hall here today.

2 jail officials booked for fraud
Gurdaspur March 29
The Deputy Superintendent, Gurdaspur jail ,Mr S.K. Bansa, and the Head Warden, Mr Harpal Singh, have been booked for committing a fraud. According to highly-placed sources, the jail officers have been booked for allegedly claiming fake medical bills for treating a patient lodged in the jail.
