Explosive knock by Rocky

Chandigarh, March 21
An explosive knock of 50 runs in 15 balls by Rocky Ratta helped the Minarva Academy Cricket Club to beat the Prudential Cricket Club (PCC) by three wickets to lift the 10th Prudential Cricket League Cricket Tournament at Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 27, here today.

The tournament was organised by the PCC and sponsored by the UT Cricket Association.

Tej Gobind (55) was the highest scorer of the Prudential Cricket Club, which set target of 179 runs in 24.5 overs. The 50-run knock by Rockey Ratta, in which he hit seven sixes and two fours, made it possible to achieve the target in the 23rd over. Vishal Saini of the PCC got the man of the series and Rockey Ratta and Sunny Behl of the MACC were awarded the best batsman and best bowler of the tournament, respectively.

Auditors hockey meet: The semi-final match of the ongoing All India Audit and Accounts Inter Zonal Hockey Tournament being played at Hockey Stadium, Sector 42 between AG Punjab and AG Tamil Nadu and the second semi-final between AG Jharkhand and AG Orissa will be held tomorrow at 7 am and 8 am, respectively. The matches could not be held today due to inclement weather. The final will be played at 4 pm tomorrow.

TT tourney: North Zone IA and AD Table Tennis tournament is being organised at Table Tennis Hall, Sector 23, here, from March 22 to 24.The teams from AG Punjab, Delhi Audit, AG Haryana, AG J&K, AG HP, AG UP and AG Uttranchal are participating in this three-day tournament. The top two teams will join top teams of other three zones- Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, West Bengal, Bihar, Rajasthan and Chhatisgarh in the All India Inter Zonal Tournament to be held here from March 26 to 28.

The host AG, Haryana, will be captained by Patnjali Kumar. Sh Ashwani Attri, Accountant General (Audit), Haryana, will inaugurate the event at Table Tennis Hall, Sector 23, tomorrow at 10.30 am.

Under-15 cricket: The Chandigarh Cricket Association affiliated with Punjab Cricket Association is organising an under-15 ICL Cricket Tournament from April 1. The players born after August 31, 1990, are eligible to participate in the tournament. The entries should reach Mohinder Singh, secretary, Chandigarh Cricket Association on, or before March 27.

MOHALI
Ranji Trophy:
The Punjab State Ranji Trophy team, led by local cricketer Dinesh Mongia, will arrive in the city tomorrow after beating the Mumbai team in the semi-finals of a Ranji Trophy match played in Mumbai. Now the Punjab team will play the final match against the Railways at the Punjab Cricket Association grounds from March 30 to April 3. The Punjab team will start practice at the PCA grounds under the supervision of Mr Intikhab Alam, coach-cum-manager of the team, from tomorrow.

This association is affiliated with Haryana State Table Soccer Association which is already working under the aegis of Table Soccer Federation of India. Police to launch scheme for senior citizens

Panchkula, March 21
The new Superintendent of Police, Dr R.C. Misra, has plan to introduce helping old age people police scheme (HOPPS), in the town. He is also aiming to enthuse a sense of responsibility in the Resident Welfare Associations (RWA) towards the senior citizens residing alone in their houses.

Dr Misra, while interacting with mediapersons here, said the police would assist senior citizens by providing them safety, succour and free services, under the HOPPS. The scheme was initiated by former Superintendent of Police Mamta Singh. Dr Misra said he would launch the scheme soon.

Under the scheme, police- men would pay electricity bills, telephone bills, get the pension of these citizens, provide them medical assistance and postal services. The policemen would also assist them in withdrawing or depositing cash from the bank. It would act as a family counsellor, in case of dispute between couples or with their children. Besides, the policemen would ensure the verification of passport, arms licence, tenant or servant verification. Any citizen over 58 years, living in Panchkula and without any immediate able-bodied help would be the beneficiary under the scheme.

The SP said he would also start talking with various RWAs, and ask them to make a list of old persons staying alone in their neighbourhood, so that the chowkidars could keep a special check on them. The residents, too, have to cooperate with the police in fighting crime, he added.

He said he would also urge HUDA to allow the residents to install gates at entry and exit points in various sectors and the RWAs could keep watchmen at these gates, so that antecedents of all those entering the sectors are checked.

Door-to-door survey in Colony No 5

Chandigarh, March 21
The Estate Office is creating a fresh database for rehabilitation purposes in the city. Deputy Commissioner Arun Kumar, in a press note here today, said that a door to door survey was currently being conducted in colony number 5.

Out of the 1500 odd houses surveyed in the area, it has been discovered that in a number of cases, households were occupied by tenants while the owners stayed at some other place.  These people will never be considered for rehabilitation in future, the note added. Mr Arun Kumar said that in order to have transparency and accountability, the Estate Office was involving local community leaders in the exercise.
