HM militant killed in encounter
Jammu, February 28
A foreign militant of Hizbul Mujahideen was killed by the security forces in an encounter near Surankote in Poonch district yesterday, a Defence Ministry spokesman said today. The spokesman said the troops ambushed a militant near Surankote yesterday and shot him dead in an exchange of fire.

Police donates 1 cr for snow-hit people
Jammu, February 28
A cheque for Rs 1 crore was today presented to Chief Minister Mufti Sayeed by the Director-General of Police, Mr Gopal Sharma, as contribution for relief to the victims of the recent snowstorm.

Two killed as avalanche hits vehicle
Jammu, February 28
Two persons were killed when an avalanche hit a jeep on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway pushing it into a 300-foot deep gorge near Jawahar Tunnel, 190 km from here today, official sources said.

HM militant killed in encounter

Jammu, February 28
A foreign militant of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) was killed by the security forces in an encounter near Surankote in Poonch district yesterday, a Defence Ministry spokesman said today.

The spokesman said the troops ambushed a militant near Surankote yesterday and shot him dead in an exchange of fire.

He was identified as Zahid Gul of Pakistan. One AK rifle, one pistol and one radio set were seized from him.

Meanwhile, the security forces raided the house of Mohammad Iqbal at Naili, near Thanamandi in Rajouri district and seized one hand grenade and two RPG rounds from there. — UNI

Police donates 1 cr for snow-hit people

Jammu, February 28
A cheque for Rs 1 crore was today presented to Chief Minister Mufti Sayeed by the Director-General of Police, Mr Gopal Sharma, as contribution for relief to the victims of the recent snowstorm.

The amount has been contributed towards the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund by all ranks of the police force.

The Mufti thanked the Prime Minister and Ms Sonia Gandhi for responding to the situation.

Army personnel donate ration

Army personnel operating in Jammu and Kashmir have voluntarily donated one-day’s ration for victims of the recent snowstorm. The ration comprises 250 tonnes of food supplies.

Two killed as avalanche hits vehicle

Jammu, February 28
Two persons were killed when an avalanche hit a jeep on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway pushing it into a 300-foot deep gorge near Jawahar Tunnel, 190 km from here today, official sources said.

The vehicle was on its way to Banihal when the incident occurred in the afternoon, they said, adding the rescuers dug out one body from the snow, but the body of that of the driver of the vehicle was yet to be recovered. — PTI
