VC for PG course in ayurveda
Mandi Ahmedgarh, February 15 Talking to the Ludhiana Tribune after laying the foundation stone of 150-bed hospital at Guru Nanak Ayurvedic Medical College at Gopalpur on Tuesday Dr Gujral said that study of ayurvedic medicine was still in infancy. “Though the government has initiated steps to strengthen research and development wing of the Ayurvedic Department there was much to be done yet,” said Dr Gujral. He called upon the managements of private colleges to plough back their profits into development and modernisation of institutes. Showing satisfaction over the working of majority of private ayurvedic colleges of the states Dr Gujral hoped that they would get recognition in near future and then it would be easy for them to start post-graduation courses. On the scope of ayurveda in the state Dr Gujral claimed that the future of this pathy was not so dark as had been made out. “A number of doctors in any field could be absorbed in the state as the desired ratio of one doctor for every 20,000 of population as prescribed by World Health Organisation was a distant dream in the state. Earlier he had laid the foundation stone for 150-bed being constructed in the college. A cultural programme was presented on the occasion. Songs, folk songs, bhangra, giddha, skits Yasmine Sharma and Deepika Arora spoke on the importance of Ayurveda. Dr Balwinder Walia chairman of the trust, Dr J.P.S. Oberoi principal, Mr Jagpal Khangura a senior Congress leader and Mr Jagdev Singh Jassowal were also among the speaker. |

Ludhiana, February 15 Non-teaching staff meeting
As per directions of the Private Colleges Non-teaching Employees Union (Punjab and Chandigarh), a meeting was held at Arya College here yesterday wherein employees demanded merger of 50 per cent of DA with basic pay on a par with their counterparts working in government colleges. The meeting was addressed by president Raj Kumar Malhotra, Mr Jai Gopal Sharma, Mr Jeevan Kumar Bhardwaj, Mr Thakur Singh, Mr Chander Shekhar Gupta, Mr Dhan Singh, Mr Mohan Singh, Mr Balwant Singh, Mr Jagan Nath, Mr Ram Khillawan and Mr Satish Kumar. |
One acquitted of charges under Arms Act

February 15 He was booked under Section 25,54,59 of the Arms Act at Dakha Police Station on March 3, 1989. A police party was apprehended him and a country-made pistol along with cartridges was recovered from his possession. |
200 examined at medical camp
Ludhiana, February 15 Dr Neeraj Arora, in charge of the camp sand more than 50 patients would be operated upon for cataract. The club would make arrangements for free lenses for patients to be operated on for cataract. Dr Pradeep Kapoor, president of the Lions Club examined patients suffering asthma. Double crowns for Steffi, Antarpreet
Ludhiana, February 15 The final match in the girls singles (u-13 years), played between Punjab champion (sub-junior) Steffi Kala and Lovleen Kaur proved to be a mismatch. In the first set, Steffi emerged winner without giving any chance to her rival to open her account (11-0). Lovleen Kaur had the consolation in the second set when she managed to score one point and eventually Steffi wrapped it up 11-1 and also won the verdict in straight sets. Later, in the singles (u-16 years), Steffi had to fight it tooth and nail to down Anchal Gupta. Steffi lost the first game 7-11 but bounced back in the next to win it narrowly by 11-9. In the third set, Steffi proved too good for Anchal winning it comfortably at 11-3. Antarpreet Singh, after winning the singles (u-10 years), went on to bag another title today. In the boys doubles (u-10 years), Antarpreet Singh with Puneetinder Singh outplayed Amit Bhasin and Sanil Dawan 15-13 and 15-8. Mr Sohan Lal Lotey, District Sports Officer, Ludhiana, gave away prizes to the winners. Other final results: Boys singles (u-16 years)- Gurbaksh Singh beat Gurrattanvir Singh 15-6 and 15-5; Boys singles (u-13 years)- Anand Tiwari beat Pranav Chopra 15-9 and 15-6; Boys doubles (u-13 years)- Bhavya Dawar and Gaursih Singla beat Antarpreet Singh and Amit Bhasin 15-4, 9-15 and 15-10. |
