Four of family asphyxiated in house

Chandigarh, February 2
A 32-year-old industrial worker, his two daughters and a son died due to asphyxiation in a room of their house in Hallo Majra village here today. The lone survivor of the family, the wife of the worker, Sheela (30), is fighting for life at the GMCH, Sector 32.

While welcoming the government's decision to favourably revise the subscription rates of the Ex-Servicemen's Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS), a section of ex-servicemen has resented the applicability of the new rates from April 1, 2004.

Indian tennis players continued with their winning trend on the penultimate day of the The Fort Ramgarh Indo-Pak Total Tennis Friendship Series, being held at the Total Tennis Academy’s YMCA premises, Sector 11. On the sixth day six matches were played, with India winning four of them to have 21-15 lead over Pakistan.

30 unauthorised shops demolished

Over 30 unauthorised shops at Balongi village were demolished by a squad of the Punjab Urban Planning and Development Authority (PUDA) here today amidst protest by villagers armed with stones and sickles. Interestingly, these shops were demolished last week by the authority but the owners had rebuilt these over the week.

Office heads asked to deposit service tax

Keeping in view the Vidhan Sabha elections in Haryana tomorrow, the Chandigarh Administration today decided that the management of shops, commercial establishments, factories and contractors shall allow special leave on February 3 to those workers who are working in Chandigarh and have their names in the voter list of any constituency of Haryana so that they can cast votes.
