Date of new rates for health scheme draws flak
Chandigarh, February 2 A statement issued by the Ropar unit of the Indian Ex-Services League here today demanded that the revised rates should be applicable from the date the scheme was introduced instead from a later date. Stating that there was no rationale or justification for having the revised rates applicable from April, 2004, the league's general secretary, Lieut-Col Angad Singh (retd), said that those who became ECHS members before April, 2004, have been harshly treated. The revised subscription rates of the ECHS, introduced in 2002, are lower. Lowering the subscription rates had been their long standing demand. |

When asked if players from Chandigarh Dynamos could make it to the Indian Hockey team, Sodhi said: “Why not! The IHF has closely watched these players perform and accordingly the deserving ones would be given a chance to represent India.” Sodhi, who has held assignments with Indian senior and junior hockey teams, said initially they were not aware of the composition of players of other teams, but gradually they put their act together. Defence team lists
structures close to Air Force Station
Zirakpur, February 2 A two-member team visited Lohgarh village and prepared a list of
structures and houses falling in the limits. The team is also preparing
the list of structures around the high grounds.
While talking to Chandigarh Tribune, the team members claimed that
they had been assigned the duty of demarcating the area and preparing a
comprehensive list of structures around defence installations.
It may be recalled that the structures around the installations had
come under cloud following objections raised by the defence authorities
over their construction. The authorities had raised objections to
ongoing construction within their limits. Besides, they had also raised
objections over quarrying around Air Force Station by some brick kiln
owners.
Some senior officials from Air Forcer Station met with the Deputy
Commissioner (DC), Patiala, and gave him a representation regarding
encroachment on the defence land by civilians.
The meeting was also attended by Mr Narinder Sangha, Sub-Divisional
Magistrate (SDM), Dera Bassi.
The SDM has already constituted a three-member committee for
demarcation of land around defence installations and for preparation of
a list of structures that have come up around the radar, high grounds
and Air Force Station.
Residents of the area and investors have criticised the defence
authorities for raising the issue time and again.
They allege that the authorities always wake up from a deep slumber
and harass the public unnecessarily.
Earlier, the ban on construction around the installation was lifted
by the Chief Minister at a meeting at Zirakpur Nagar Panchayat.
The Chief Minister had publically announced the lifting of ban on
construction in the civic body limits and asked the civic body
authorities to issue NOCs to the general public for electricity and
water connections besides passing their building plans.
Residents claim that the Defence Ministry has been “keeping them in
the dark” rather giving a clear picture in this regard. |
