Education fair to be held from January 18

Ludhiana, January 8
The 10th India International Education Fair will be organised in three major cities of Punjab — Jalandhar, Ludhiana and Chandigarh. The fair is termed as ‘Northern Indian Golden Crescent Tour’ keeping in mind the potential of these cities of Punjab. The event featuring leading national and international education institutions about update the students about numerous education and career options available within India as well as abroad.

The curtain raiser for the show will be held on January 18 and 19, 2005, at DAV Public School, BRS Nagar, here. This mega event will also focus on free career counselling sessions and various seminars to benefit the student community.

The fair is being organised by Global Events and Expositions, India’s premier education fair organisers, who have organised various education fairs in different parts of India.

Mr Siddharatha Jain, chief of Marketing Operations, in a press statement today said that nowadays with new courses coming up, the requirement of appropriate guidance was essential to start a career on the right note. With over 50 participants, the series of education fairs would provide accurate and uptodate information on professional courses and career options available within various streams, including management, computer education, medical, fashion, multimedia, hotel management, tourism, air hostess training, graphic design, beauty care, polytechnic, language courses, call centers training among others. Apart from these, expected participation by the Indian Army, he Indian Navy, the Coast Guard and the Indian Air Force would be an added attraction.

Various reputed banks providing education loans are expected to arrange special counselling sessions to facilitate easy understanding and awareness about different educational loans that the students can avail. This will also facilitate on-the-spot sanction of education loans to deserving candidates.

Several foreign institutions and educational consultants will help students gain information on existing professional education and career prospects.

Workshop on higher education organised

Ludhiana, January 8
SDP College for Women held a workshop on ‘Raising the standards of Higher Education’ on the college campus today. Dr K.L.Johar, former Vice- Chancellor of Guru Jambeshwar University, Hisar and Vice-Chairman, Seth Jai Prakash, of Mukand Lal institutions of knowledge and service were the main speaker and resource person respectively.

Dr Johar advised the teachers to equip themselves with knowledge of international standards to give their best to the students and produce human intellectual power of a higher order. He said the teachers had no right to sit back and rest on their laurels. They needed to update themselves steadily.

The Department of Computer Science also held an extension lecture on the college campus. Dr Jagmohan Singh, former head department of Computer Science, PAU delivered a lecture on ‘Net and Networking’.

Parent-teacher meeting held

Khanna, January 8
Parent-teacher meetings are necessary for moral, mental and physical development of students. Mr Balram Sharma in charge of Government Elementary School, Ramgarh, yesterday stated this, while addressing, the parents teachers meeting on the school premises.

Welcoming the decision of starting yoga education in the schools of the state, he praised the policies of Education Minister Harnam Dass Johar.

He said it was decided that the students getting Ist, 2nd and 3rd positions would be honoured in the next meeting.

Ms Sima Khangura, Srinder Kaur, Harpreet Kaur, Baldev Raj, Kamal Jit Singh, Kuldeep Singh and Narinder Singh were present on the occasion.

IGNOU meeting postponed

IGNOU has postponed the nationwide induction meeting which was scheduled for January 8-9. The meeting had been planned for students who had taken admission for the January 2005 session.

Dr Umesh Chandra Pandey, Regional Director, IGNOU, Punjab and Chandigarh, said the revised dates of induction meeting would be notified soon. He said information about the postponement of the induction meeting had already been displayed on the notice boards of all study centres.

The nationwide video-teleconferencing is organised by IGNOU every year through which the Vice-Chancellor, heads of all divisions and faculty of the IGNOU interact with the students and give them tips on how to make the best use of the facilities available to them at the study centres and the regional centres.

Lok Adalat on traffic challans on Jan 22

Ludhiana, January 8
To clear cases of traffic challans in different courts in the district, a special Lok Adalat of 30 Benches, will be organised in new Judicial Courts Complex on January 22.

Mr Harbans Lal, District and Sessions Judge, said that more than 15,000 cases of traffic challans were pending in different courts. He also asked police officers of three police districts to ensure prompt service of summons.
