City skaters shine in national games
Chandigarh, January 1 The city roller hockey team bagged the silver medal in these games. In speed events, Gulsagar Singh of Chandigarh won the bronze medal in under-17 rink race in-line. Amber Gill got the silver medal in 300 metre race inline and the bronze medal in 500 metre race in-line. The meet was held under the banner of the School Games Federation of India (P.S. Chhabra faction) and organised by the Education Department, Gujarat. Mr Sarabjit Singh, who accompanied the team as coach, praised the arrangements made by the hosts and also the newly built skating rink. The team comprised, Amandeep Singh, Gaurav, Harminder, Amber Gill, Amit, Sumit, Vikram, Arjun, Hitesh and Nahyal. Carrom rankings Sushila Prasad and Gagandeep Singh topped the annual ranking list announced by the Chandigarh Carrom Association here today. According to Mr Mahesh Sekhri, general secretary of the association, it was based on the various tournaments
conducted. Rankings in order wise: women: Sushila Prasad, Anjali Yadav, Saroj Chandel, Inder Kanta, Amit Sharma, Bhanu Jain, Neelam Yadav, Kumari Kiran, Nidhi Patwal, Kum Kiran and Gulab Negi. Men: Gagandeep, Neeraj Bharti, Asif Iqbal, Mohammd Shahzad, Sudhir Sidhu, Mazhar Khan, Tejinder Harry, Quayyum Khan, Paramdeep, Mukesh Piplani, K.S. Patwal and Sayyed Taslim. ITC win A superb performance by Jagdish Kumar, who claimed five wickets for 11 runs, helped by Amarjit Kumar, who bagged three wickets for 20 runs, enabled International Testing Centre (ITC) XI in beating Nestle XI by 32 runs to win the final of the second Girish Nayyar Memorial Inter-Institutional League XI Cricket Tournament here today at Cricket Stadium, Sector 3, Panchkula. Brief scores: ITC XI:195 runs all out in 34.5 overs (Umesh Kashyap 36, Kulwinder Romi 28, Rajesh Arora 26, Vaneet Chawla 22, Amarjit Kumar 24, Pawan Grewal 3 for 25, Hitesh Kapoor 2 for zero, Dinesh Rana 2 for 29, Sandeep Sandhu 2 for 34). Chandigarh, January 1 The traffic police set up three picket points at Kala Gram, on the Sectors 9 and 10 diving road behind the police headquarters and near the Piccadilly Hotel. Six challans were issued for drunken driving, including for overspeeding and without helmets. Police sources said except for a minor traffic jams near Hotel South End, the traffic flowed smoothly during the peak hours. The drive continued from 9.30 pm to 12.30 am. |
