Eye institute launches check-up drive

With an eye on health upkeep and patient care, the Eye Institute and Multispeciality Hospital, Sohana, here today embarked upon “Vision 2005”.

Under the programme, the hospital has planned to hold a free eye and dental check-up camps at selected venues all over Chandigarh.

Mobile OPD clinics equipped with the latest technology would be available at the camps where doctors and surgeons would examine patients free of cost.

Needy patients would be given free medicines. Those in need of surgery would be offered a no profit -no loss package at the Sohana hospital.

Those interested would be given dates for surgery on the spot to minimise inconvenience.

According to a press statement issued by the hospital authorities, these camps would be held at six locations on fixed days from 10 am to 2 pm. On Mondays, the camps would be held at the Shri Sanatan Dharam Mandir, Sector 23, on Tuesdays these camps would be held at Gurdwara Sri Guru Arjun Dev, Sector 40, on Wednesdays the camps would be held at the Satsang Bhawan, Grain Market, Sec-26, on Thursdays, the camps would be held at Gurudwara Pipli Wala Town, Manimajra, on Fridays the camps would be held at the Sanatan Dharam Mandir, Sector 27 and on Saturdays the camps would be held at the Laxmi Narayan Mandir, Sector 20.

New head of PGI’s Dermatology

Dr A.J. Kanwar will Head the Department of Dermatology, Venereology and Leprology of the PGI from tomorrow. He succeeds Prof Bhushan Kumar, who retired today.

A graduate from AIIMS, New Delhi, Dr Kanwar joined the PGI as Associate Professor in 1987. In 1995, he went on a deputation as Prof and Head of the Department of Dermatology at Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32.

Gagandeep, Bhanu lift carrom titles

Chandigarh, December 31
Bhanu Jain in women’s section and Gagandeep Singh in men’s section emerged winners in the 7th Raj Kumar Babuta Memorial Carrom Ranking Tournament, which concluded at St Stephen’s School, Sector 45, here today.

In women’s final, Bhanu beat Sushila Prasad in straight games — 25-20, 25-04.

Earlier, Bhanu created an upset by defeating Anjali Yadav 25-00, 21-24, 20-10 in the semifinals.

In men’s final, Gagandeep beat Neeraj Bharti 25-00, 25-02. Earlier in the semifinal, he ousted Mohd Shahzad in straight games 25-17, 25-17.

The men’s winner got Rs 2,500 while women’s winner got Rs 1,500.
