3 die, 8 hurt in accident
Ludhiana, December 25
Two women and a minor girl were killed and eight others reported injured when a vehicle carrying devotees from Beas to Noorpur Bhattian village overturned and rolled into a ditch near Hardy’s World railway overbridge on the Ludhiana-Jalandhar highway today evening.

125 duped of Rs 30 lakh
Two accused arrested
Ludhiana, December 25
As many as 125 persons have been duped of over Rs 30 lakh by a consultancy firm in Haibowal which promised them to multiply their investments several times within two years or return the money after that period with full interest.

Increase in electricity duty decried
Ludhiana, December 25
Condemning the increase in electricity duty, the Apex Chamber of Commerce and Industry today said the five to 10 per cent increase in duty would almost nullify the previous reduction in power tariffs by the Punjab State Electricity Regulatory Commission.

Four held for theft
Jagraon, December 25
Major Singh, Rajinder Singh, Joginder Singh and Sony Singh all of Halwara allegedly committed a theft in the late hours of the night by cutting girders and carried it on two scooters but were arrested with girders and a case was registered under Section 379, 411 of the IPC at Jagraon.

Brick-kiln owners meet ministers

To end ongoing strike brickkiln owners have urged the science and Technology Department, Punjab, to provide them with a “solution to use fly ash in a cost effective and environment friendly manner for manufacturing bricks”.

Coaching centres make hay while examinations draw near

Since Board Examinations of classes X and XII are drawing near so it is time for teachers running tuition centres and teachers giving private tuitions to make money. The courses are supposed to be finished for both the classes and after Christmas break , provisional or pre-board examinations would be held and the students have to do well.

‘Annual Function of Everest Public Senior Secondary School Moti Nagar, Ludhiana was held today. Mr Surinder Dawar, Parliament Secretary and Minister of Department of Power and Housing and Urban development, Punjab, was the chief guest. Ratika gets bronze in MCA

Ludhiana, December 25
Ritika Bisht a student of Guru Nanak Institute of Management and Technology (GNIMT), Ludhiana has won bronze medal (overall third position) in MCA 2001-2004 batch. Earlier a student of same institute won a gold medal in BCA. Nidhi Khosla and Kuljit Kaur of the same institute won overall seventh and eighth positions in MCA. Ritika Bisht, Nidhi Khosla and Kuljit Kaur scored (87.31 per cent), (85.87 per cent) and 3336/3900 (85.54 per cent) marks respectively.

Bodybuilding competition at Khanna 
Ludhiana, December 25
The Ludhiana Amateur Bodybuilding Association will organise the Punjab Classic Bodybuilding Championship at the A S Model School, Khanna on December 26, according to Mr Ravi Kumar, general secretary of the association. During this championship, top 10 position holders will be awarded with prizes.
