DENTAL CAMP: As many as 306 students were examined at a free dental check-up camp held at RSD Girls High School in Nai Abadi on Thursday. The camp was organised by the Health Department in collaboration with the state unit of the Indian Dental Association and Colgate-Palmolive. A contest of poster making and good teeth was held on the school premises.

Quiz contest: The 16-Infantry Division on Friday organised an inter-school quiz contest, coinciding with the World AIDS Day. Major Sumit Sobti conducted the quiz, while Principal Yashika Bhardwaj welcomed the guests. Col S. K. Sihare, who was the chief guest on the occasion, gave away the individual prizes and team trophy to Monisha and Ashish of the Army School, Sriganganagar. Priyanka and Shashank of the Army School, Lalgarh, bagged the second prize.

Declamation: A declamation contest was held at Sardar Patel Medical Institute of Nursing here on Friday. Dr Gauri Shankar Mittal, Chairman, and Mr Seeta Ram Sharma, Managing Director, said the aim was to develop their personality and bring awareness among the students of paramedical profession. Mr Seeta Ram Malethia, Ms Manju and Ms Parveen won first, second and third prizes respectively.

Investigation: Mr Gurmeet Singh, DSP, Ferozepore, will head a special team to nab the persons responsible for the broad-day light robbery that took place on Friday afternoon. The SSP, Mr H.S. Chahal discussed the incident with the local police at the police complex. The police suspected that the inter-state gangs, who had masterminded robberies at the petrol filling stations on Sriganganagar and Hanumangarh roads during past two years, might have committed the yesterday's robbery in which four youths snatched Rs 10.96 lakh from one Mangal Singh.

INAUGURATED: More than 10 cancer patients were examined by Dr K.K. Naik, cancer specialist, at Mahabir Cancer Clinic here on Thursday. Mr Manmohan Gupta, president of the Mahabir Dal, inaugurated the clinic.

Mr Manmohan Gupta, president, Mahabir Dal, inaugurated the clinic. Dr K. K. Naik, would be examine cancer patients on every Wednesday from 9:30 am to 2 pm.

: An electrician of the local the Cooperative Sugar Mill died on Friday when a blade of a cooling fan broke down. This fan, which was one of the three fans installed to cool water at the mill, ran for sometime.

MINOR GIRL ABDUCTED: Winder Singh and his wife Balbir Kaur of Guram village allegedly abducted a girl (17) of Jand and took her away in their Maruti car No PB 10E-0792 with the help of Gurdip Singh of Lakal. The Dehlon police has registered a case under Sections 363, 366, IPC on the complaint of Manjit Kaur, mother of the victim. No arrest has been made so far.

CAR STOLEN: Ajmer Singh of Humbran and Bikramjit Singh of Majri are alleged to have stolen Rs 50,000 Maruti car (PBL 5115) and one TVS Sazuki motor cycle. The Sidhwanbet police on the statement of Balwant Singh of Bhundri has registered a case under Sections 356, 379 IPC. No arrest has been made so far.

Road repair
: While presiding over the meeting of the District Grievances Committee, the Punjab Sports and Youth Affairs Minister, Mr Jagmohan Singh Kang, said the repair work of Muktsar-Jalalabad road would start from December 17 and would be completed before Maghi Mela to be held on January 14,2005. He said the repair would be carried out through Kar Seva.

ARRESTED: The Shahpur Kandi police has arrested an accused who was absconding for the past five months after committing the rape. The accused has been identified as Jarnail Singh of Gunera village. According to the police, the accused had on June 26 lured a minor girl to marry him. Later, the accused in connivance with his relative raped the victim. A case under Sections 376-363-366-120B of the IPC was registered against the accused. He was produced before the court of the Judicial Magistrate, Mr Ranjit Singh, on Friday who remanded him in judicial custody.

RALLY: An environment rally was taken out for creating awareness among masses on Friday. The rally was flagged off by Mr Malkiat Singh Ragbotra, president Nagar Council-cum general secretary, Environment Association, Phagwara. It was organised by the Rotaract Club, (Phagwara Central).
