Shimla, December 11
The Left parties will seek legislation on job guarantee in the coming winter session of Parliament. This was stated in a press conference organised today by Mr Sita Ram Yechury. He said the Left would not compromise on the issue of 100 days employment to one member of every family, beginning from the rural areas. “We would like to set a Bill on job guarantee passed by Parliament so that the most important point in the CMP is fulfilled,” he added.

He also said being members of the UPA government at the Centre, the Left parties were keen to implement common minimum programmes in all Congress-ruled states. He said this would help in forgins better coordination and understanding between like-minded parties. Mr Yechury, added that if the Bill was passed in Parliament it would give the right to strike to employees and demand the setting up of the next Pay Commission.

Mr Yechury also clarified that the support of the Left parties to the government was conditional to the implementation of the CMP. “So far no concrete decisions have been taken on policy matters pertaining to its implementation as focus on issues like foreign policy and Planning Commission,” he added. The continuation of the CPM support to the UPA regime greatly depended on their willingness to implement the CMP.
