Signs of early snow in HP

Shimla, November 27
The intense cold wave sweeping the mid and higher hills of Himachal further aggravated today as Shimla and its surrounding areas were again lashed by hail and rain today.

The sky remained overcast for the greater part of the day and icy winds continued to sweep the region, causing further fall in temperature. The minimum temperature in Shimla dropped to 4°C while the maximum day temperature also fell from 17°C on Thursday to 10°C today.

The Associate Director of the Horticulture Research Centre at Mashobra, Dr S. R. Bharadwaj, said the fall in temperature was due to precipitation and chilly winds sweeping the region but it was a welcome sign as it indicated early snow.

He said low day and night temperatures were favourable for early snow and if there was snow by Christmas eve or before, it would be beneficial for farmers, especially apple growers. — PTI
