Pulse polio campaign on Nov 21

Around 5.20 lakh children, falling in the age group of 0 to 5 years will be administered pulse polio drops in the 5th round of National Immunization Day on November 21, 2004, under the Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization Campaign- 2004.

To take stock of the situation the Deputy Commissioner, Mr Anurag Verma, convened a meeting of all the district heads of departments at the Circuit House here today.

Speaking at the occasion, Mr Verma said during the fourth round of immunization, conducted on October 10, efforts were made to cover all children.

Giving more details of the pulse polio drive, he said children in the age group of 0-5 years in the district would be covered by putting up 900 polio booths in the district. Special arrangements had been made to administer polio drops to the travelling children, for which 96 mobile teams of doctors had been formed.

The District Programme Officer, The District Education Officers (secondary and primary) were also asked to provide required staff to the health administration so as to properly manage the polio vaccination booths in all parts of the district. All SDMs would supervise the immunisation programme in their subdivisions, Mr Verma added.

Ilamjot, Antarpreet declared best athletes

Ludhiana, November 10
Ilamjot Singh and Antarpreet Kaur were declared best athletes among the sub-junior boys and girls categories in the annual athletic meet of Guru Nanak International Public School, Model Town, here today. In the junior category, Dilpreet Kaur and Jasmer Singh were adjudged best athletes. Sukhpreet Kaur and Harmanpreet Singh were declared best athletes in the senior section.

Harmanpreet Singh and Dilpreet Kaur were adjudged best players of the year in the boy's and girl's sections, respectively. The marchpast trophy was bagged by Blue House.

Mr M. N. A. Chaudhary, Commissioner, Income Tax, Ludhiana, distributed prizes among winners. Ms B.Gulati, Principal, and Mr Gurbir Singh Sarna, general secretary of the school, also spoke on the occasion.
