City-based swimmer Abhimanyu Tewari (17) gave a remarkable performance at the 50th National School Games held at Sirsa. A Class XII student of Bhavan Vidyalya, Sector 27, won gold medals in the 50-metre back stroke and 100-metre back stroke events.

The significance of his performance could be gauged from the fact despite the presence of top ranked swimmers from Karnataka in the fray, he won the gold medals.

Abhimanyu said he got training for few months in Bangalore which enabled him to improve his weak points as well as to judge the competition level of various other top ranked swimmers in the country. Though the city do not have an all-weather swimming pool at present, still the youngsters in this sport were keen to improve their timings and performance, he added.

Earlier, Abhimanyu had won medals in the state swimming championship and in the Open National Swimming Meet held last year.
