Snoring major cause of cardiac problem Chandigarh, November 7 Dr Sawhney said trails were underway in Europe for its efficacy. Speaking about the scenario of heart diseases in India, Dr Sawhney said the incidence of heart disease had increased by 400 per cent in the country during the last decade and by 2020 India would be home to the largest number of cardiac patients in the world. Dr Bernd J. Wintersperger of the Department of Clinical Radiology, University of Munich, Germany, talked about the new technology being used to assess the risk of coronary heart disease using CT scans which has made invasive procedures like angiography unnecessary. Dr Surinder Kumar of Prime Diagnostic revealed that snoring was a major cause of cardiac problem. A study has revealed that 7.5 per cent of the male in the age group of 30 to 65 suffers from sleep apnea leading to death in sleep. Renowned cardiologist Naresh Trehan informed the audience about the Rs 1000-crore project of setting up the Institute of Integrated Medical Sciences and Holistic Therapies at Gurgaon. The institute is proposed to have super specialties and research facilities. |
Ex-servicemen find polyclinic sans staff,
facilities Chandigarh, November 7 According to a statement issued by the All India Ex-Servicemen Welfare Association, no emergency services, ambulance, specialist, ECG or X-ray machine was available at the polyclinic. The polyclinic, which was launched on August 13, has only two doctors and two nursing assistants. Empanellment of civilian hospitals for availing treatment by ex-servicemen is also being awaited. Further, the polyclinic has been placed in the ‘D’ category, where as Chandigarh, having an ex-servicemen population of above 10,000 merits a ‘B’ category polyclinic, the statement added. |
ONGC spikers clinch title Chandigarh, November 7 Avnish, skipper of the ONGC team, supported by Y. Subba Rao, strengthened their dominance of ONGC players in the first set. The second set also had some crucial moments when Sanjay of the HSIDC gave an initial lead to his team but that was short-lived. Third set saw fast paced rallies from both sides and despite the fact that the HSIDC players were trailing, they kept their spirits high. At one stage the scores was 15-12 in favour of the ONGC which was levelled to 15-15 by the HSIDC. But again the ONGC team prevailed upon to surge ahead and finished at 25-19. Mr D.S. Bedi, Director-Principal of the host school, said, “We plan to make synthetic courts so as to give more practice to the Shivalik Volleyball academy players too.” Mr Vijay Pal Singh, secretary of the Chandigarh Volleyball Association, said they wish that the tournament of this stature may be further expanded to national-level so that teams like Railways and other states could also participate. |
Chandita, Sahil best skaters Chandigarh, November 7 Rohit Bajaj, a Class VIII student of Manav Mangal School, Panchkula, stole the limelight by winning a gold medal in rink race II and a silver medal in road race in below-14 year category. Shubham Narang, another student of Manav Mangal School, won gold medal in rink race in below-12 year section. Mayank of Bhawan Vidyalya won gold medal in rink race II in below-16 years. Nourin Midha, a student of Bhawan Vidyalya, Sector 15, won two gold medals in speed skating in below-12 years in girls Satluj Public School, Sector 4, Panchkula, outplayed Bhawan Vidyalya, Sector 15, Panchkula, in junior section by three goals to two in a roller hockey final tie. Kuljinder Singh scored two goals while Varinder Singh scored one goal for the winners. Earlier, the local association also honoured the four girls of Panchkula who were part of the Indian women roller hockey team in the Asian Roller Skating Championship held at Japan early this year. These were, Chandita Kamboj, Suruchi Chandel, Renuka and Smriti. Isha Sarpal and Nutan in girls under-14 and under-12 categories won first place in the 50-metre breast stroke event respectively, in the 16th Chandigarh Open Swimming Championships for senior, junior, sub-junior boys and girls section held here today at the Panjab University swimming pool. The one-day meet was organised by the Chandigarh Swimming Association. Rana Gurmit Sodhi, Chief Parliamentary Secretary (Sports), was the chief guest and gave away the prizes.
