MCPI flays cane charge on farmers
Tribune News Service

Ludhiana, November 4
The Marxist Communist Party of India (MCPI) has flayed the cane charge on agitating farmers by the police recently. Comrade Jagjit Singh Lyallpuri, national unit general secretary, and Kuldip Singh, state unit secretary of the outfit, have condemned the police action reportedly on the instructions of the state government on peacefully agitating farmers highlighting the distress sale of cotton and narma.

The leaders described this as an attack on the democratic rights of the farmers. By such action and misdeeds the Congress has exposed itself as an anti-farmer and pro-trader government, they added.

The government should focus its attention on stopping the open exploitation of farmers in markets at the hands of unscrupulous traders and take adequate steps to ensure full price of cotton.

Mr Lyallpuri has demanded immediate release of arrested activists and withdrawal of false cases against the leaders of the movement. They have also rejected the increase of Rs 10 in the MSP of wheat and described it a cruel joke on the farmers.
