College students donate blood

Ludhiana, November 3
A voluntary blood donation camp was organised by Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) at RSD College in Ferozepore on the occasion of the 84th foundation day of the college.

A team of doctors and technicians from the DMCH, led by Dr Amarjit Kaur, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Transfusion Medicine, collected 74 units of blood on the occasion.

The camp was inaugurated by Mr Ravinder Pal Singh Sandhu, MLA and chairman of the Punjab State Warehousing Corporation.

Mr B.B. Sanwalka, secretary, and Mr Amrik Arora, director of the RSD College Trust and management Society, were also present.

Dr Suresh Sharma, principal of the college lauded the initiative of the DMCH for organising the camp. He praised the students for overwhelming response, relentless spirit and dedication for the noble cause.

Mr Satish Sanwalka, treasurer of the DMCH Managing Society, also spoke on the occasion.

According to Dr Amarjit Kaur, the blood collected at the camp would be processed and screened for all transmissible diseases like Aids and hepatitis before it was released to patients.

Farewell party

The governing council, staff and students of the GHG Khalsa College of Education, Gursar Sadhar, gave a warm send-off to Principal Jagjit Singh Brar who retired on October 31.The president of the governing council, Mr Manjit Singh Gill, the vice-president, Mr Hardyal Singh Gill and the Secretary, Mr Sohan Singh, presented a memento to Dr Brar. The Principal, Dr Rakesh Chander, proposed a vote of thanks.

Rangoli contest

A ‘rangoli’ contest was held in Sacred Heart Convent School, Urban Estate, here on Wednesday. Students of classes VII, VIII, IX and X participated in it.

The winners were Dipinti Singla (VIII, Yellow House), Aditya Dua (IX, Green House) Sunaina Kapoor (IX, Blue House) and Shivraj Braich (X Rose House).

A fancy dress contest for junior students was also held. Nearly 500 students participated in it. Diva Dawar (Class 1, Red House and Rajat Arora (Class II, Yellow House) bagged the first and the Second Prize, respectively.

Seminar

The Malwa Central College of Education for Women will host a seminar sponsored by the University Grants Commission on ‘Enculturation of education: some emerging trends’ on Friday.

PCTE rated A grade by survey

The Punjab College of Technical Education (PCTE) has been ranked the best B-school of Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu and Kashmir in a B-school survey conducted by Business India. The PCTE has been rated A grade. The survey was conducted by Monitoring Research Systems Pvt Ltd, a research agency based in Mumbai. The survey included 182 B schools of India.

Dr K.N.S. Kang, Director, PCTE, said in India there were approximately 990 management institutes and Business India had bracketed the PCTE among those rated A grade.

The PCTE was rated 44th among the 50 top B-grade school last month by Outlook. This is for the second time that the PCTE has been rated as the best B-school of Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal by an AIMA survey.

TAC Gallery is 1-year-old

TAC Art Gallery in Rajguru Nagar which came into existence a year ago, provides the right ambience for art lovers of the region. Karuna Mohindra and her husband Dinesh Mohindra , who came to Ludhiana from Delhi, realised that the city had excelled in every field except art. So they decided to set up a professional art gallery and thus TAC Art Gallery came into existence.

So far, 10 exhibitions of various artists, mainly from Punjab and Chandigarh, have been held at the art gallery. Besides, it has organised many art workshops for school and college students.

Karuna, a professional artist, has introduced courses in art, including sculpture. She plans to set up an art emporium.
