St John’s faced some earlier jolts when four batsmen were out at 16, but its innings was steadied by some fine batting of Vikram Talwar (28), Ayush Raj Soni (33) and Vishal Jatta (20). The Minerva Academy Football Club started its campaign with a bang, pumping in 13 goals in its first two league matches in the first Lt Col I.S. Deol Memorial Football League 2004. In the first match of the day, Minerva Academy outplayed the Young Football Club and won by comfortable 7 goals. They were leading by 3 goals to 1 at the breather. Gurminder Singh scored 2 goals for the academy. In the second match, the Sanjay Football Club defeated the Golden Football Club, 2-0. Ajay scored both goals for the winners. The Young Football Club got a walkover from the AG Haryana. The Coaching Centre, Sector 17, defeated Sanjay Football Club by 3-1. In the last match of the Minerva Academy thrashed Golden Football Club 6-1. Gurminder Singh scored a hat-trick for the winners. They led 3-1 at the lemon break.
