Kulu, October 23 The whole atmosphere was filled with rhythmical sound of drums and lilting of Shahnaies while men, women and children in their traditional folk dresses gathered to watch the spectacular event. Mr Maheshwar Singh and Mr Karan Singh, the descendents of Raja Jagat Singh, the former ruler of Rupi (Kulu), along with their offshoots led the shobha yatra, which started from Raghunath Mandir at Raghunathpur here. The idols of Lord Rama and Sita were placed in a beautifully decorated wooden chariot (locally called Rath) and pulled down to the centre of the Dhalpur ground where they will be kept for next six days in a camp temple. Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha Speaker Gangu Ram Musafir, Agriculture Minister Raj Krishan Gaur, MP Pratibha Singh and Chairman of State Marketing Board Satya Prakash Thakur were also present on a dais specially erected near the northern end of the ground during the Rath Yatra. Later, the Speaker inaugurated an exhibition of industries and power projects coming up in the state. The Dasehra in Kulu begins after the Dasehra celebrations are over elsewhere in the country because, as the legend goes, the 'Lanka dahan' was done on the full-moon day which according to the Hindu calendar falls on the seventh day of the Vijaydashmi. |

heavy tariff
Shimla, October 23 In a statement issued here, he said in states that were purchasing power from Himachal, the power was cheaper than in Himachal where the consumer was paying almost close to Rs 5 for every unit of power. “The commercial consumer is already reeling under the burden of electricity surcharge, meter service charge and other special charges,” he remarked. He said why should the consumer pay for the failure of the government to pay Rs 35 crore as subsidy to the HPSEB, which was trying to extract it now by putting the burden on the common man.
