Pak farmers invited to PAU kisan mela
Ludhiana, October 13 On a visit to the Punjab Agricultural University here, he said that both countries had common cultural heritage, land, language and problems. The University of Agriculture Faislabad and PAU-mother of green revolution shared a special bond and there should be frequent exchange of students and the teachers of these universities. Mr Noon told that the Pakistan government was laying more emphasis on strengthening the rural economy. More tractors were being manufactured in Pakistan and the agricultural tools were being imported free of custom duty. He said Pakistan government was providing more loan facilities and the Bank of Punjab and other commercial banks are responsible for getting the crops insured. Rana Mohammad Kasim Noon said that the Agricultural structure in Pakistan was being renewed and the main purpose of their visit to India was to evaluate the marketing system in India. In order to make the agriculture more modern and successful, more agricultural colleges have been started at Multan and Dera Gazzikhan in Pakistan, while there was already an Agriculture College was being run in Rawalpindi. Mr Shaukat Aziz, prime Minister of Pakistan has reduced the prices of DAP fertiliser and a fertilizer plant installed in Pakistani Punjab. Speaking on the occasion Dr K.S. Aulakh, Vice-Chancellor of PAU said that Pakistani farmers would also be invited to the Kisan Mela in March, 2005 so that they may be able to see the agricultural development in Punjab to implement the new scientific techniques in their own fields in Pakistan. Dr Aulakh honoured Rana Mohammad Kasim Noon, rana Aftaab Ahmed Khan, Parliamentary Secretary, Agricultural Marketing and other three delegates by presenting them the shawls. Dr Aulakh presented a set of PAU publications to Mr Noon. The delegation visited the Crop Museum in the Department of Plant Breeding, Farm Power and Machinery, Post Harvest Technology centre, Department of Soil Sciences, Farm service centre and had an open interaction with the scientists. Besides the meeting with arttiya association Mr Noon had a meeting with the correspondents of local newspapers. All Deans, directors, Head of the Departments of Economics and Business Management an Dr P.S. Rangi and Dr Joginder Singh economists were present on the occasion. |

Ludhiana, October 13 The judges were Ms Rashmi Grover from Government College for Women, Dr Vishwa Bandhu Sudhir (Arya College for Boys) and Dr Satpal Grewal and Ms Nirottam Moudgil (Malwa College of Education). The chief guest was Ms Indra Bhatia, Principal, Government College for Boys. The results are: English: Sheeba Soin II (KVM), Komal Kiran III (Guru Nanak International Public School) and Preeti consolation prize (Shivalik Public School). Hindi: Mrinal II (BSF Sec. School, Jalandhar), Jagriti Sharma III (KVM, Civil Lines) and Shalini consolation prize (BCM, Shastri Nagar). Musical bonanza: Rhythm and thrill were palapable at Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School, BRS Nagar, as the Horizon Group organised a musical bonanza on the school campus today. A 10-day NSS camp was organised at Shanti Tara College, Ahmedgarh, which concluded here yesterday.
According to Prof. Charanpreet Singh Dua, seminars were organised regarding de-addiction from drug, unemployment and education for students during this camp. Volunteers visited Akbarpur Channa village.
This function was presided over by the college Principal, Dr Gurjant Singh, who welcomed the chief guest.
