Rain, snow likely in HP, J&K

Rainfall: Rain or thundershowers have occurred at most places in Haryana and Uttaranchal, at many places in Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab, at a few places in east Rajasthan and west Uttar Pradesh, and at isolated places in the rest of the region. The chief amounts of rainfall in cm are: Haryana, Rohtak 4, Ayanagar 3, Loharu, New Delhi (Palam) and Panipat 2 each and Ambala, Delhi Ridge, Hindon, Karnal, Kalka, New Delhi (Safdarjung) and Nilokheri 1 each, Himachal Pradesh: Bangana and Dhundhi 2 each and Bhang, Nagrotasuriyan, Patsio and Solangnala 1 each, Jammu and Kashmir: Batote 7, Banihal and Quazigund 6 each, Katra and Srinagar 4 each and Jammu 2, Punjab: Raya 5 and Amritsar 1, east Rajasthan: Jaipur A.P. 8 and Pilani 2, west Rajasthan: Churu 1, east Uttar Pradesh: Bahraich 3, west Uttar Pradesh: Agra 6 and Bareilly 3 and Uttaranchal: Pantnagar 4, Mukteshwar 3 and Dehra Dun and Tehri 1 each.

Temperature: Past 24 Hours change: Maximum temperatures fell largly in Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab, fell markedly in Uttaranchal, fell appreciably in Rajasthan and changed little elsewhere.

Departure: They were largely below normal in Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab, appreciably below normal in Rajasthan and Uttaranchal, above normal in east Uttar Pradesh and normal in the rest of the region. The highest temperature in the region was 37.9°C recorded at Allahabad (Uttar Pradesh).

Past 24 hours change: Minimum temperatures fell appreciably in Haryana, west Rajasthan and west Uttar Pradesh, fell in Himachal Pradesh, Jammuu and Kashmir, Punjab, east Rajasthan and Uttaranchal and changed little elsewhere.

Departure: They were below normal in west Uttar Pradesh and Uttaranchal and normal in the rest of the region. The lowest temperature in the plains was 15°C recorded at Amritsar (Punjab).

Forecast valid until the morning of October 13: Rain/snow will occur at many places in Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir and Uttaranchal. Rain or thundershowers will occur at many places in Haryana and Punjab and Uttar Pradesh and at a few places in the rest of the region. Heavy rainfall warning: Isolated heavy rain/snow is likely in Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir and Uttaranchal during the next 48 hours.

Forecast for Delhi and neighbourhood valid until the morning of October 13: Generally cloudy sky with possibility of rain/thundershowers in some areas. Maximum and Minimum temperatures will be around 30°C and 20°C respectively.

Farmers weather bulletin for Delhi forecast valid until the morning of October 13: Light rain is likely at a few places.

Outlook for the subsequent two days: No large change.

Rain lashes North India, snow in HP

Chandigarh, October 11
The higher reaches of Himachal Pradesh received snowfall while moderate to heavy rain lashed northern parts of the country today causing the temperatures to fall by up to 11 degrees at some places.

The higher peaks of Himachal Pradesh were covered by a thick white blanket giving rise to cold conditions. Patsio had a snowfall of 10 cm, according to the Meteorological Department here.

Heavy rains (32 mm) lashed Chandigarh throughout the day and normal life was affected. Cold conditions persisted and the day temperature plunged seven degrees below normal to record 23.6°C.

In Haryana, Ambala was lashed by 15 mm of rain and the maximum temprature dropped nine degrees at 25.2°C while Karnal was also lashed by rains and the maximum settled at 25.4°C.

Hisar, Panchkula, Kalka, Sonepat and Gurgaon also received rains since yesterday.

In Punjab, Ludhiana had a heavy downpour today at 45 mm and the maximum dropped by a record 11 degrees to settle at 23.4°C. The Patiala, Ropar and Nangal Dam areas were among other towns in the state to receive rains.

Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir saw the mercury in the day plummeting by eight degrees at 16.8°C while the night was cold at 7.4°C. Both Srinagar and Jammu had been lashed by rain since yesterday.

Reports reaching here said that unseasonal rain had damaged the standing and stored paddy crops at a few places in Punjab and Haryana.

The Met Department said yesterday’s western disturbance over north Pakistan, adjoining Jammu and Kashmir, now lied over Jammu and Kashmir and adjoining north Pakistan and another induced upper air cyclonic circulation lied over north Rajasthan and neighbourhood.

Rain at many places and snow at a few places has been forecast for HP while moderate to heay rain is likely in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh over the next two days. — PTI
