Novelist who made history in fine arts

Dr Mulk Raj Anand died on Tuesday Literary giant, novelist and short-story writer, connoisseur of art and all that was beautiful, Dr Mulk Raj Anand was this and much more. While the country may remember him as one of the “founding fathers” of the Indian English novel, Panjab University recalls the great litterateur’s contribution in setting up the Fine Arts Museum on the campus.

Omission of freedom fighters’ names shock Sachar

Mr Rajindar Sachar, a former President of the Peoples Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL), has expressed shock over the reported decision of the Karnataka Government to omit names of freedom fighters Chandrashekar Azad and Bhagat Singh from the book of Social Science - Struggle for Freedom - Phase II. The book is part of the syllabus in Karnataka schools.

Permission for dumping construction material on roads mandatory

The UT Administration today made it mandatory for all residents to seek permission from the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation, on payment of a fee, for storage of construction material on road berms, back service lanes or any street before the start of a new construction, additions or alterations in buildings in the city.

The Punjab Pollution Control Board today informed the Punjab and Haryana High Court that it has filed an application in the Delhi High Court for becoming a party to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) for use of fly ash in the manufacture of bricks.
