MC for CNG fuel in city

To tackle the problem of increasing vehicular pollution in the city, the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation has decided to take up the matter with the Union Government to introduce CNG fuel in the city.

Industry suffering due to power cuts

Acute shortage of electricity has added to industry’s woes here. Increased prices of raw materials, decline in production and unemployment along with increase in costs are among many of the problems the industry here is facing on account of power cuts.

Mr Baldev Singh Sodhi, Additional Sessions Judge, has sentenced Kishan Lal, hailing from Rajasthan, to rigorous imprisonment for 10 years, on the charge of possessing opium. A fine of Rs 1 lakh was also imposed upon the accused. Delivering the verdict, Mr Sodhi held that the prosecution had successfully proved the guilt of the accused.

16 proclaimed offenders held

The Proclaimed Offender Staff wing of the city police today claimed to have achieved a major success by arresting 16 proclaimed offenders in first half of this month only.

5 held for assault on PCO owner

Five youths have been arrested for allegedly assaulting a public call office (PCO) owner who had reportedly not allowed them to make dubious calls from his PCO.

Kandiala leaves Liberal Party

Mr Gurmel Singh Kandiala and several other office-bearers has left the Liberal Party. Mr Gurmel Singh said, the Liberal Party held a meeting at village Jandi village in which is various office-bearers did not like the policies of the party as this party, they considered was that of the British people who ruled over India but were later thrown out by our shaheed Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, Sukhdev, Kartar Singh Sarabha and Udham Singh who sacrificed their lives for freedom and now again this party was on the lookout for ruling country.

Chhati Utsav celebrated with fervour

After Janmashtmi, Chhati Utsav, which marks the taking back of Lord Krishna from cradle to his throne, was celebrated with fervour in city yesterday. People thronged temples to pay obeisance to Lord Krishna.

Journalist alleges threat from councillor
Khanna, September 13 Suresh Kumar a reporter of a Punjabi daily of Jalandhar alleged that Mr Sanjay Ghai, a Councillor of the Ward No. 2 and relative of a senior Punjab Police officer had threatened him and tried to throw him from the Railway overbridge.

Book on Urdu poetry released

A poetry book —Ahsas —written by Sagar Sialkoti, was released by Mr Rakesh Panday. State Minister for Science and Technology, at Punjabi Bhavan here last evening. The function was presided over by chief patron , Adeeb International, and CEO of Hero Cycles Om Prakash Munjal.

Ludhiana, September 13
Members of the Roopika Club celebrated Janmashtami today. Women chanted bhajans in praise of Lord Krishna and also danced to devotional songs. The function was held in Model Town here.

Thieves decamp with Rs 4,000, valuables from parked car
Ludhiana, September 13
Thieves, specialising in stealing from parked cars, broke open the window pane of a car shortly after 1 pm on Sunday and decamped with Rs 4,000, a passport , a cheque book, registration papers of the car, a driving licence and some gold ornaments. The vehicle was parked outside the New Sabzi mandi here.

Security guard stabbed
Chandigarh, September 13
A security guard was stabbed in the abdomen last evening by a person who wanted an entry into a house in Sector 21 to meet his wife working as a servant. The security guard, Shailender Kumar, was operated upon in the GMCH and is stated to be out of danger. The alleged attacker, Amar Singh, was arrested. The police is also questioning Shiv Murat, another suspect.

Riding high over fine batting performance by Salil Kaushal (81), skipper Ankur Kakkar (73) and Ashish Vinayak (67 n.o), Ludhiana posted a challenging total of 320 for 9 before Jalandhar in the Punjab State Inter-District Katoch Shield Tournament being organised by the Punjab Cricket Association at the Satish Chander Dhawan Government College for Boys ground here today.
