The local police and Army authorities have busted a racket run by a Moti Nagar-based grocery shop owner, who employed village youths to buy subsidised products from various CSD canteens on fake cards in the state and sell them at huge profit in the open market.

Park vehicles at own risk

In the absence of any check by the administration, parking contractors are fleecing residents, who have no option but to park their vehicles in the spaces auctioned by the administration.

‘SGPC coins lack quality’

Special gold and silver coins released by the SGPC in connection with the 400th Parkash Utsav of Shri Guru Granth Sahib are not up to the mark. Compared with the gold and silver coins issued to commemorate the tercentenary celebrations of the birth of Khalsa, these coins lack the quality.

Public grievance removal system to get momentum
Ludhiana, September, 11
The Minister for Rural Development, Irrigation, Panchayat and Power, Mr Lal Singh, has stated that the Punjab Government has decided to strengthen the public grievances removal system. Regular meetings of the district grievances removal committees will be organised to redress problems of the people.

Gang of robbers busted, four held 
Mandi Ahmedgarh, September 11
The Dehlon police has busted a gang of robbers that had been active in the area for around two years. It was allegedly involved in roadside robberies. Four members of the gang have been arrested. Three of them are already facing various criminal charges.

Driver booked for causing death
Ludhiana, September 11
On the statement of Harvinderpal Singh, a resident of Guru Nanak Colony, the Shimla Puri police yesterday registered a case under Sections 279, 304-A and 427 of the IPC against Kamaljit Singh, a driver employed in the PRTC, for causing the death of Iqbal Singh.

College barred from holding exams for 3 years
Ludhiana, September 11
The Baba Farid University of Health Sciences has debarred the staff of Lord Mahavira Homoeopathic Medical College, Ludhiana, from holding any university assignment for the next three years. There will be no examination centre in the college during this period and the students will have to take their exams at a specially set up centre at Shri Guru Nanak Dev Homoeopathic Medical College, Ludhiana.

‘Stop education privatisation’
Ludhiana, September 11
“My single largest contribution during my tenure as Secretary of Higher Education was that I withheld the permission for setting up 56 new B.Ed colleges in the state as I was aware that the students graduating from existing college are not getting jobs,” said Dr Manmohan Singh, former Secretary, Higher Education. He was in the city to honour retired principals and teachers.

Vanamahotsava celebrated

Salad contest results
Ludhiana, September 11
Salad making competition was organised at BIS(N) Senior Secondary School, BRS Nagar, Ludhiana in which 106 students participated. As many as 94 girlstudents took part. Twelve boys actively participated in it. Their work was appreciated by one and all.

Kunal strikes gold in martial art

Kunal Trehan proved his supremacy by winning a gold medal in the sub-junior category of the 14th North India Martial Arts Competition, which began at Lions Bhavan here today. The competition is being organised by the International Veer Kwon Do Martial Arts Academy.

Abhipsha, Rohit win gold in swimming
Ludhiana, September 11
Abhipsha Thakur of GNIMT in the girls’ section and Rohit Dhir of SBSCL, Ferozepur in the boys’ section hogged limelight in the First Punjab Technical University Inter-College Swimming Championship at Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College here today. Abhipsha secured three gold while Rohit bagged two gold medals on the opening day.

Shiva Bhambota, a first-year student of the College of Agriculture Engineering, reigned supreme in the Inter-College Swimming Championship of the Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, by winning 11 medals, including seven gold.
