Hizb militant among 3 killed in valley
Srinagar, September 4 Sources said the body of a Hizb intelligence chief Abdul Rashid Dar, alias Tariq Aziz, was recovered at Ratanipora Pulwama in south Kashmir last night. He was reportedly killed in an inter-group clash. Meanwhile, an encounter took place between militants and security forces at Nagbal Shopian early this morning during which a security jawan laid down his life and two others sustained injuries. The injured jawans were admitted to hospital. However, the militants managed to escape, sources said. An official spokesman said militants killed one Abdul Rashid Gujri at Manigam in frontier Kashmir district of Kupwara last evening. However, the police, arrested one person, whose name was not disclosed, allegedly involved into the killing of Gujri and seized one AK rifle, two
magazines, one pistol and a wireless set from his possession. He said security forces also arrested one Ghulam Hassan Paiyer at Manigah Kupwara and seized one pistol and a wireless set from his possession. A Jaish-e-Mohammad ultra was also apprehended by the security forces at Banderpora Pulwama today. Security forces also recovered one pistol, two wireless sets two UBGL grenades, one hand grenade, two anti personnel mines and 20 rounds of ammunition at Bari Behak Bijhama in Uri last evening during a search operation.

Editor held for selling press cards
Jammu, September 4 Editor-in-chief of Amar Tiranga, Raj Lasotra, general manager Ravi Lasotra and his brother Sandeep were arrested yesterday, the police said. Preliminary investigations reveal that the editor sold nearly 250 press identity cards to teenagers for Rs 2,000 per card, the police said. The police recovered identity cards bearing words ‘Registered with Registrar of Newspapers of India and Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India” during a raid at the newspaper office at Rehari area in Jammu last night, the police said. Those possessing the identity cards have been asked to report to the police station here, they said.

Panel set up to find VC for SMVD varsity
Jammu, September 4 “The Governor has appointed a four-member search committee headed by V.S. Raju, Chairman, Regional Search Committee of DRDO, to look for a new Vice-Chancellor of SMVD University,” official sources said. Presently, the Vice-Chancellor of Jammu University, Prof Amitabh Mattoo, is holding the charge of the university. Besides Raju, other members of the search committee included Commissioner/Secretary, Forest Department, Sonali Kumar, Additional Chief Executive Officer, Sri Mata Vaishnov Devi Shrine Board, Rohit Kansal and a nominee of the University Grants Commission.

Liquor, charas seized, two held
Jammu, September 4 The police arrested a sadhu during a raid near Jammu railway station here today morning and seized 1.2 kg charas, worth nearly Rs 40 lakh in international market, from him. A case has been registered against Bharat Giri sadhu, they said. On specific information, excise sleuths conducted raid on a house in Panjer village of Doda and seized 150 litres country-made liqour last night, they said. Ram Lal was arrested in this connection, they said adding a case has been registered against him.

Jammu, September 4 Official sources said Paras Ram was working in his border field when he inadvertently stepped over a landmine, which went off. In the explosion, he sustained critical injuries and was hospitalised.
