New block at GMCH to be operational soon

Chandigarh, June 15
The new block-C of Government Medical College Hospital, Sector 32, Chandigarh, will be operationalised soon.

The UT Administrator, Justice O.P. Verma today asked his Adviser Lalit Sharma to make arrangements to make the new block operational immediately. Justice Verma said the delay in inauguration was causing great hardship to the patients requiring life support system. He said this block should become operational with immediate effect and a formal inauguration, if at all necessary, from a desired VIP, may be done later.

The completion of Rs 23 crore project was earlier delayed due to non -supply of imported operation theatre lights for 14 operation theatres by the vendor company which had reportedly closed down its unit. Later when the lights were procured and installed in February, 2004, the Model Code of Conduct came in the way of its inauguration.

Former Ranji player trains students

Chandigarh, June 15
Haryana’s former Ranji Trophy player Girish Bhanot visited KBDAV School in Sector 7 during a cricket workshop today. He gave bowling tips to young players. Students were also taught how to grip the ball and the art of spin. Tips on batting and fielding were also given.

Carrom tournaments

The Chandigarh Carrom Association has finalised the annual calendar of carrom contests to be organised this year. According to it, the Seventh St Stephens Carrom Ranking Tournament will be held from July 15 to 18.

The XIVth Chandigarh state carrom championship will be held from August 21 to 26. The VIIth Raj Kumar Babuta memorial prize money carrom ranking tournament will be held from October 16 to 18.

The association also proposes to organise an inter-school carrom tournament and test series for the neighbouring states. It also intends to add an inter college carrom tournament from the current session in its annual activities. The association also proposes to field teams in all national zonal tournaments and conduct practice-cum-coaching camps before each national zonal tournament.
