Chetan Sharma guides Rajdhani Sports to victory

New Delhi, May 23
A brilliant all-round performance by Chetan Sharma guided Rajdhani Sports to an eight-wicket victory over fancied Chand Khanna Club in the Lala Raghubir Singh Memorial Hot Weather Cricket Tournament at the Modern School ground.

Rajdhani Sports won the toss and opted to field. The strong Chand Khanna batting line-up failed to cope with the sustained and accurate spells of the Rajdhani bowlers and folded up for 158 in 34.5 overs. K S Rana and Sanjay Verma picked up three wickets each while Chetan Sharma accounted for two important wickets.

In reply Rajdhani Sports raced past the victory target in 29.5 overs, knocking in 160 runs for the loss of two wickets.

Chetan Sharma smashed an unbeaten 62 off 85 balls with six fours and one six, while Sanjay Verma remained not out on 35 (5x4, 1x6, 26b). Agnesh Surya cracked a stylish 56 with three fours and four sixes, off just 51 balls.

Chetan Sharma was adjudged the Reebok man of the match. Tournament secretary V. K. Baweja said S.G. special balls are being used in the tournament.

Mohd Kaif joins ‘bowl out polio’ campaign

New Delhi, May 23
Indian cricket star Mohd Kaif hailed the community work of eight mobilisers working for the polio eradication programme in villages of Uttar Pradesh and presented them awards of appreciation.

While presenting the awards, Mohd, Kaif observed that “who knows, if I hadn’t received my polio drops as a kid, I may not have been playing cricket today!”.

He urged parents to take their children to the polio immunization booth on Sunday and make sure that they ‘bowl out polio’ from Uttar Pradesh and India. The awards were given in the presence of senior representatives from UNICEF, including deputy director of operations in India David Gressly, State representative Ray V Torres, regional technical adviser Dr Roma Solomon and officials from the Government of UP.

Shivam, Praveen make merry in Summer League

Half centuries by Shivam Sharma and Praveen Rawat helped U K Cricket World defeat Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Academy by 98 runs in a league match of the Cambridge Foundation Under-19 Summer League Cricket Tournament at the Cambridge ground, Rajouri Garden.

Scores: U K Cricket World: 218 all out in 26.2 overs (Shivam Sharma 59, Praveen Rawat 52, Rameez Niyamat 42, Parvesh Kumar 4 for 45, Saurabh Sharma 3 for 43). S.P.M Academy: 120 all out in 28.4 overs (Priyank Kumar 30, Gaganpreet Singh 3 for 24, Nitin Thareja 3 for 26).

Shanti Sports Academy beat Remal Public School by 100 runs.

Scores: Shanti Sports: 285 for 7 in 30 overs (Soaib Prasad 70, Praveen Pawar 67, Vishal Rajput 50, Sunil Dabas 3 for 30). Remal School: 185 all out in 24.4 overs (Yudhir Singh 50, Rahul Tarran 38, Vivek Tyagi 3 for 21, Amit Kumar 3 for 36).

R P Academy defeated hosts Chetan Sharma Acadmey by six wickets in the Under-14 Cricket Tournament.

Sune Singh bowls Delhi Police to victory in DDCA League

A devastating 4 for 30 bowling spell by Sune Singh and a dashing knock of 70 by Harvinder helped Delhi Police defeat Malviya Club by 50 runs in the DDCA Super League Super A Division match at the Jamia Milia ground.

Scores: Delhi Police: 197 for 7 in 40 overs (Harvinder Singh 70, Rajesh Sharma 40 n o, Arun Kanojia 2 for 35). Malviya Club: 147 all out in 31.2 overs (Gagandeep Singh 42, Gaurav Gupta 27, Sune Singh 4 for 30, Sanjay Verma 3 for 17).

Universal defeated Anand Sports by 33 runs in an A-II Division match at the Mohan Meakins ground.

Scores: Universal Club: 239 for 4 in 40 overs (Vijay Bhardwaj 73, Lalit Rawat 51 n o, Asif Rehman 50, Vikas Rathi 2 for 44). Anand Sports: 206 all out in 36 overs (Vikash Sharma 58, Sunil Yadav 31, Hariom Choudhary 4 for 40, Rajesh Sharma 2 for 26).

Chandni Chowk Gymkhana beat Lal Bahadur Shastri Coaching Centre by three wickets in an A-II Division Super League match at the RSC ground.

Half centuries by Sandeep Angurala (67, 8x4, 3x6) and Abhishek Kaushik (59) helped Young Association, Shahdara defeat Alpine Club by 148 runs and entered the quarter-final of the third I D Paul Memorial Cricket Tournament at the Apex Public School ground. Sandeep Angurala was named the man of the match.

Scores: Young Association: 245 all out in 24.4 overs (Sandeep Angurala 67, Abhishek Kaushik 59, Rajender Bisht 35, Ashish Kumar 3 for 40, Sahil Singh 3 for 33). Alpine Club: 97 all out in 14.1 overs (Manish Adhikari 34, Bhupender Yadav 3 for 26, Rajender Bisht 3 for 27).

Fine performances from Narender Kumar (80, 10x4), Mohd Kaif (50) and Vivek Srivastava (4 for 38 and 35) helped Sarvodaya Bal Vidyalaya, Jheel Khuranja defeat Alcon Public School by eight wickets and entered the semi-final of the Sharma Sports Under-19 Cricket Tournament at the Yamuna Sports Complex ground. Narender was named the man of the match.

Sonnet sail into last four

Deepak Joon hit an unbeaten 76 as last year’s runners-up Sonnet Club defeated Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) by six wickets and entered the semi-final of the Goswami Ganesh Dutt Cricket Tournament at the SGTB Khalsa College ground on Sunday. Deepak was named the man of the match.

Scores: HPCA: 182 all out in 37.4 overs (Hemant Dogra 19, Sangram Singh 46, Ajay Manu 40, Vinod Minhas 21, N S Negi 2 for 34, Suhail Sharma 3 for 33, Chetanya Nanda 2 for 30, Mayank Sidana 1 for 3). Sonnet Club: 183 for 4 in 36.4 overs (Mayank Sidhana 33, Deepak Joon 76, Yashpal Singh 21, Saket Bhatia 34, Vishal Bhatia 1 for 21).

Ajiteesh Sandhu emerges winner

New Delhi, May 23
Ajiteesh Sandhu of Chandigarh returned the best card of 74 to finish on top in Category A with an overall score of 299 in the four-day Jaypee Greens Junior/Sub-Junior Golf Championship, an Indian Golf Union categoried season-opener national tournament for Merit List purpose, at the Jaypee Greens course.

Local boy Raj Randhawa finished the day with an identical score of 74, but had to be contended with second position with a four-day gross of 300, one stroke below the winner.

The other winners were Fatehbir Dhaliwal of Chandigarh in Category B with a four-day score o 303, Rommel Majumder of Kolkata with a four-day score of 328 in Category C and Virrat Badhwar of Delhi, in Category D with a total of 250.

Laverry Kumar, the only girl contestant in the history of IGU-categoried tournaments to compete with boys in the same tournament, qualified and finished with a commendable four-day socre of 369.
