Ludhiana, May 23
TVS Motors organised a road safety quiz for the students of Bharatiya Vidya Mandir, Udham Singh Nagar, and New Senior Secondary School, Civil Lines, here yesterday.

Senior students were asked to answer 50 multiple choice questions based on traffic symbols and road safety. After the contest, the students were shown a 30-minute movie focussing on precautions to be taken while driving.

Mr Naresh Goswami, director of the Zoom Media Vision, an event management company, said there were over 50 fatalities per 10,000 vehicles every year in India. The rate was the highest in the world, he said.

He said in India, the rate of accidents was 20 times more than any developing country in the world. He said the only way to reduce accidents was by means of launching an awareness campaign at school and college levels. He said the company was planning to cover 500 schools in Punjab and Chandigarh as a part of the programme.
