The Sub-Divisional Magistrate, East, has asked the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) to register cases against Ludhiana Nursing Home Private Limited and Trehan Surgical Centre and Nursing Home, Ludhiana, for making fictitious entries in their records regarding dates of birth.

President keeps his word
Orders regularisation of job of local painter
Ludhiana, May 22
The President of India, Mr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, has kept his promise of providing a job to a local talented-but-poverty-stricken painter, Ashok Kumar Goswami, who had gifted President his portrait during his maiden visit to the city in September last year.

40 police officials transferred
Khanna, May 22
As many as 40 police officials, including two Inspectors and four Sub-Inspectors, have been transferred in the Khanna police district by the SSP Khanna, Mr Pramod Ban, on administrative grounds. According to the orders, all transferred officials have been directed to report immediately at their new posting.

Disruption in loading of containers hit exports
Ludhiana, May 22
The suspension of loading of containers from the inland container depot (ICD) for Mumbai port for a period of 10 days has hit the export operations from the city. Exporters allege that no prior notice was given to them in this regard as a result of which their shipments will be delayed, leading to financial losses.

Railway employees stage dharna, gherao official
Ludhiana, May 22
Members of the Northern Railway Men Union, today staged a dharna to protest against the alleged misbehaviour of an official of the Railways who, the unionists claimed, had been abusing and threatening employees. Led by Mr Ram Kumar, president of the union the employees gheraoed the official concerned for three hours. They sat outside his office at 2 p.m. and started raising slogans against him. They added that they would not tolerate his autocratic style of working.

‘Victim’ turns accused
Ludhiana, May 22
The ‘kidnapping’ case of a focal point resident has proved to be a stage-managed one. The police today presented the alleged victim-turned-accused, Raj Kumar, before mediapersons. He said he had concocted a story of his kidnapping to falsely implicate a relative of his.

Gang of thieves busted, two held
Ludhiana, May 22
The city police today arrested two members of a gang which was involved in stealing things or accessories from cars. Mr Mandeep Singh, SP (detective), stated in a press note issued here today that the two were caught when they were trying to steal some goods from a car parked on the Mall.

T is learnt that the 10th World Punjabi Conference will be held in Chandigarh from May 28 to 30 in which, besides others, 200 prominent Punjabis from Pakistan will participate. This news has revived the memory of the Indo-Pak poetic symposium, termed as Jashn-e-Sahir (2004), organised in the city last month by Adeeb International (Sahir Cultural Academy).

Aggarwal  Sammelan poll on May 27
Ludhiana, May 22
The elections to the central body of the Akhil Bharatiya Aggarwal Sammelan for the next term will be held at Indore (Madhya Pradesh) on May 30. In order to facilitate the delegates from Punjab to cast their votes here, Mr Amrit Lal Aggarwal, president of the state unit has been nominated assistant election officer for Punjab by the election officer, Mr Babu Ram Gupta.

Miscreants kill dera sevadar
Doraha, May 22
A sevadar of a dera was killed while another one was injured late last night when some miscreants attacked a dera at Daumajra village, near Payal. According to information, some miscreants forcibly entered the dera at Daumajra village and started beating up Dashrath, a sevadar and resident of Uttar Pradesh, and residing at the dera. He was beaten to death with huge sticks while his companion Bagga was severely injured in the mishap.

Manmohan urged to check steel prices
Ludhiana, May 22
The Ludhiana Hand-tool Association, while welcoming the appointment of Mr Manmohan Singh as the Prime Minister, has appealed to him to check the increase in steel prices and hoped that the prices would be lowered in the next few days.

North India Technical Consultancy Organisation (NITCON), a public sector industrial, Technical and Management Consultancy organisation and a joint venture of All India Financial Institutions, State level financial institutions and Nationalised Banks, has been awarded ‘ISO 9001:2000’ which confirms that in house procedures, systems and practices adopted by the organisation are in line with international practices.

Mr Justice V. M. Jain of the Punjab and Haryana High Court was accorded a warm welcome by the judicial officers and the district administration on his arrival here today. He was recently appointed as Administrative Judge for Ludhiana district by the high court to supervise the functioning of the subordinate judiciary.

Kanika creates ‘Rainbow of Colours’
Ludhiana, May 22
A collection of Kanika Dhanda’s more than 50 paintings, titled Rainbow of Colours, is on display at the Sutlej Club. The two-day exhibition began here today. The artist has used different mediums like oils, fevicryl, ceramics, etc. to give some of her works a three dimensional effect. She has very creatively made use of tissue paper, straw mats, bamboos, newspapers, moulding and cloth in some of her paintings.

Gurpreet Khaira to lead u-19 cricket team
Ludhiana, May 22
Gurpreet Khaira, a student of BA I of the Satish Chander Dhawan Government College for Boys, will lead the Ludhiana (u-19) team in the Punjab State Inter-District Cricket Tournament for the Dhruve Pandove Trophy to be organised by the Punjab Cricket Association from May 23 at different venues. Ludhiana, in its inaugural match (May 23 and 24), will take on Amritsar at Amritsar.
