URGED
: The District Council of Punjab Chandigarh College Teachers Union (PCCTU) has urged Dr S.P. Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Guru Nanak Dev University, to stop 5 per cent deduction from the evaluation remuneration for holiday home at Dalhousie. It also demanded to enhance the existing remuneration rates of various examination, works, duties including evaluation of answer sheets, paper setting supervisory duties, TA/DA etc. the university has increased admission and examination fees.

Fatehgarh Sahib
OFFICE-BEARERS: The following have been elected office-bearers of the State Committee on Female Foeticide, PNDT and MTP Act: chairman — Dr N. S. Bawa (Fatehgarh Sahib), vice-chairman Dr D.S. Bhullar (Patiala), secretary — Dr Gurpreet Singh Mavi (Morinda); and members — Dr Sarita Aggarwal (Patiala), Dr Sukhwinder Kaur Shergill (Amritsar), Dr Inderjit Singh (Khanna) and Dr Sushila Goyal (Patiala).

ARRESTED: The police here on Monday claimed to have arrested Gurpreet Singh son of Mota Singh of Jabbowal village, Bhupinder Singh son of Gurmail and Gian Singh son of Mohan Singh, Surinder Singh son of Gurmail Singh, all residents of village Ballo, Sikander Singh son of Shingara Singh of Paragpur village, Harmesh Singh son of Daulti of Mahil Gehilan village and recovered from them a Hero Honda motor cycle, a scooter, two countrymade revolvers, 40 cartridges. Cases under Sections 25, 54 and 59 of the IPC were registered at Rahon police station against them.

COLLEGE
: GT Computer Hardware Engineering College Private Limited will be launched here shortly. The Jaipur-based institution has been imparting technical education in electricals, computer hardware and mobile phones repairs. It is the only college in India which has ISO 9001:2000 certification.

Ropar
DIES AFTER CASTING VOTE: A 121-year-old man died outside a polling station in Koobaher village in Morinda Assembly segment of Ropar Lok Sabha constituency on Monday. He was coming out of the polling station after casting his vote, SDM Sukhwinder Singh here said.

TWO COPS BOOKED: Nirmal Singh, a constable, a head constable Gurinder Singh and Lamberdar Jarnail Singh have been booked under Section 420, 120B of the IPC and 7, 9, 12 f the Prevention of Corruption Act.

REVOLVERS SEIZED: The Verowal police has recovered two revolvers from two persons. Cases under Section 25, 54, 59 of the Arms Act have been registered against them. The accused are Nachhatar Singh of Thotha village and Bikramjit Singh of Verowal village.

BOOKED FOR RAPE: Nahar Singh (21) of Shesh Khan village under Mallanwala police station in Ferozepore district has been booked for the rape of a two-year-old girl.

WOMAN BOOKED: Laxmi Devi of Meerut (UP) was booked under the NDPS Act for smuggling smack.
