MCD health centre giving wrong medicines:
Tara Chand

New Delhi, May 11
The Health Centre at Kanjhawla run by the MCD does not have a professional chemist and because of this patients have been given wrong medicines, Mr. Tara Chand, Block President of Outer Delhi Unit of Babu Jagjeevan Ram Akhil Bhartiya Samta Andolan, alleged today.

Mr Tara Chand said that the health centre, which caters to the needs of thousands of residents of the area, was ill equipped and the personnel posted over there for more than two decades at a stretch had developed vested interests.

Demanding an inquiry into the affairs of the health centre, Mr Tara Chand said that repeated complaints to the MCD top brass had yielded no result. He also demanded that the staff members who had been post for so many years at Kanjhawla Health centre should be transferred and new personnel should be posted there to streamline the work.

Deptt of Buddhist Studies win Olympic quiz

New Delhi, May 11
Students of the Department of Buddhist Studies emerged the winners in the Olympic Quiz Contest, organised by the Delhi University Sports Council, as a precursor to the Olympic Games at Athens 2004.

Twenty teams from different colleges participated in the first-ever Olympic quiz organised by the Delhi University at the Delhi University Sports complex. Television and radio commentator Novy Kapadia moderated the quiz contest.

After stiff competition in the preliminary rounds, six teams qualified for the final round.

In the finals, seven rounds of questions, ranging from visuals, legends of Olympics, Indian hockey, two general rounds on the Olympics and India in the Olympics, were held. Buddhist Studies logged 127.5 points to top the table, and pocket a cash prize of Rs 10,000. St. Stephen’s C team finished second with 110 points to bag Rs 8000 while Stephen’s A came third to earn Rs 6,000. Each team consisted of two members. All the participants were given T-shirts.

Former Olympian Harbans Lal Suri, who ran the marathon at the 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games, was the chief guest while swimmer Richa Mishra was the guest of honour.

Delhi University deputy director of sports Dr S N Gupta said a bilingual essay competition on Olympics was also held.

The topics were: India and Olympics and Why the Olympics is the greatest sports bonanza in the world? Dr Gupta announced that Krishna Omkar and Tanmoy Goswamy of Stepen’s stood first and second while Piyush Prasad of Kirori Mal College took the third position in the English language category. In Hindi, Dilip Kumar of Buddhist Studies and Yog Raj Sharma of Department of Urdu finished first and second respectively, with Tabassum of Lakshmibai College ending at the third position. Cash prizes of Rs 5,000, Rs 4,000 and Rs 3,000 were also given to the first three finishers.

Former hockey Olympian Nandi Singh (1948, London and 1952, Helsinki) was the chief guest. A seminar was also held on Olympic Games and Health Promotion in which several prominent personalities presented papers. Dr Kiran Datar, Dean of Colleges, inaugurated the seminar while former Indian hockey team captain and Olympian M P Ganesh delivered the keynote address. Papers were presented by marathoner Sunita Godara, Prof U S Sharma, Dr Raj Kumar (Reader, Patel Chest Institute), Dr D K Kansal, Kiran Sandhu and G P Gautam. The seminar recommended that critical issues like doping, smoking and other undesirable practices should be banished from sports and life.

Jheel School annex Sushila Tiwari cricket trophy

An all-round display by Vivek Srivastava (3 for 38; 72, 8x4) enabled Government Sarvodaya Bal

Vidyalaya, Jheel Khuranja defeat Bharatiya Vidya Bhawan by five wickets in the inaugural Dr Sushila Tiwari Memorial Under-17 Cricket Tournament, organised by the Uttaranchal Social Welfare and Sports Foundation, at the Yamuna Sports Complex ground.

Ramit Gill of Ravindra School was declared the best batsman for his sequence of scores 94, 105 and 57 in the tournament. Lalit Gaur of Jheel School was adjudged the best bowler while Sandeep Tyagi of Bharatiya Vidya Bhawan received the man of the series award.

The prize distribution function was attended by Dr Vidya Bhaskar Dubey, P K Aggarwal, Tarun Joshi, cricket coach Gurcharan Singh and Manisha Sisodia.

Scores: Bharatiya Vidya Bhawan: 176 all out in 37.5 overs (Chetan Bisht 68, 7x4, 1x6; Puneet Mehra 30, Vivek Srivastava 3 for 38, Narender Singh 2 for 17, Lalit Gaur 2 for 29).

Govt School, Jheel: 179 for 5 in 38.4 overs (Vivek Srivastava 72, Rajeev Gupta 31, Sharad Kumar 3 for 20, Jaideep Choudhary 2 for 41).

Hansraj School win roller skating title

S Sudesh bagged four gold medals in the Delhi State Open Roller Championship. Preet Singh, Lakshay, Lakshit Minocha, Ankit Wadhwa, Ankit and Sumit Khanna were the other skaters who rode to gold medals.

In the junior section, Hansraj School, Punjabi Bagh won the roller hockey championship. Overall, Hansraj School collected 13 gold, four silver and six bronze medals. Coach Subhash was hailed by the principal of Hansraj school for his fine contribution.

Shivam shines for MRV School

An all-round performance by Shivam Sharma (39 n o and 6 for 24) helped MRV School Academy, Dwarka Sector 13 beat Masonic Academy by 44 runs in the Maharaja Ranjit Singh Under-13 Cricket Tournament at the Guru Harikrishan Public School, Vasant Vihar. Shivam was adjudged the man of the match.

Scores: Masonic Academy: 168 all out in 27 overs (Shashi Kant 44, Mohit Mehta 31, Shivam Sharma 6 for 24, Bhanu Mehra 2 for 21).

MRV School: 169 for 3 in 23 overs (Shivam Sharma 39 n o, Dev Kant 33, Brijesh 30).

Sanjay, Bhupinder deadly

Deadly bowling by Sanjay Joshi (4 for 18) and Bhupinder Kumar (3 for 27) helped E-Fund defeat KLM Cargo by four runs and enter the final of the Reebok Cup Cricket Tournament at the Palam ground.

Scores: E-Fund: 152 all out in 24 overs (Ajay Bhandari 43, Rishi Singla 26, Sanjay Joshi 21, Shivi Mehta 3 for 16, Anil Bhagat 3 for 23).

KLM Cargo: 148 for 9 in 25 overs (Dheeraj Sharma 43, Manish Kumar 35, Sanjay Joshi 4 for 18, Bhupinder Kumar 3 for 27).

Sehrawat, Jalad Dua power DAV School to victory

Strokeful centuries by Love Sehrawat (141, 18x4, 2x6) and Jalad Dua (101, 15x4) and deadly bowling by Vishu Tomar (4 for 12) helped DAV School, Shalimar Bagh defeat Aryavart Club by 200 runs and enter the quarter-final of the Achrekar Under-17 Cricket

Tournament at the Paschim Vihar sports complex ground.

Scores: DAV School: 380 for 8 in 50 overs (Love Sehrawat 141, Jalad Dua 101, Pawan 2 for 21, Ishan Pasreja 3 for 21, Shobhit 3 for 40).

The 1st Dot Com Cricket Tournament will be held at the

Najafgarh Stadium on May 24. The tournament will be played in a knock-out format and the winners will pocket Rs 21,000. The runners-up will be richer by Rs 15,000.

Hemant Singh slams unbeaten century

A brilliant, unbeaten century knock by Hemant Singh (118, 15x4, 6x5) and a spitfire 90, studded with seven sixes and eight fours, by Akash Gahlot, steered Ravindra Public School to an eight-wicket victory over Gyan Bharati Academy in the third I D Paul Memorial Cricket Tournament at the Apex Public School ground at Sant Nagar.

Scores: Gyan Bharati: 249 for 7 in 25 overs (Nitin Goel 85, 10x4, 2x6; Puneet Grewal 46, 7x4, Hemant Singh 3 for 45).

Ravindra School: 253 for 2 in 23 overs (Hemant Singh 118 n o, Naveen Gahlot 90, 8x4, 7x6).
