New Delhi, May 8
To meet the growing demand of
professionals for the disability sector, the Rehabilitation Council of
India has come up with a list of courses that can be taken up by
students at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
While a
detailed list of courses is available at the RCI, some of these include
Diploma and B.Ed in special education, mental retardation, bachelor’s in
audiology and speech language, pathology, bachelor’s in prosthetics,
M.Phil in clinical psychology and diploma in clinical psychology.
The
courses cover various disabilities like hearing impairment, visual
impairment, locomotor disabilities and cerebral palsy. Students having
passed their 10+2 are eligible for the undergraduate and diploma
courses.
Commenting on the courses Padma Bhushan Maj. H.P.S.
Ahluwalia, Chairman, RCI, said: “Since the awareness about these courses
is very less, especially amongst the students in schools, we felt that
it was imperative to chalk out a list of courses that could suit the
requirements of students. This is the right time for opting for the RCI
approved courses to have a career in disability rehabilitation area
where placement opportunities are extremely bright not only in India,
but also abroad.”
