Ludhiana, May 8
To mark International Thalassemia Day, the Department of Transfusion Medicine and the Thalassemia unit of the Department of Paediatrics of Dayanand Medical College and Hospital jointly organised a blood donation camp today. More than 120 consultants, medical students and interns of the DMCH donated blood.
The camp was held under the supervision of Dr Amarjit Kaur, Associate Professor, Dr Hitesh, Assistant Professor, Department of Transfusion Medicine, and Dr Parveen Sobti, in charge, thalassemia unit of the DMCH.
Dr Parveen Sobti said, “ The DMCH has a special unit for thalassemic children. The hospital has made their admission free and blood is provided at a highly subsidised cost,”she added.
Dr Daljit Singh, Principal, DMCH, inaugurated the camp. Dr Sandeep Puri and Dr Daljit Singh gave away the appreciation prizes on the behalf of the Inner Wheel Club, Ludhiana, to the staff of the Department of Transfussion Medicine. Surprise gifts were also given to donors by the DMCH authorities.”
