While Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee kept his date with electors of Himachal Pradesh and Punjab, Rashtriya Janata Dal supremo Laloo Yadav could not make it to Ludhiana as leaders of all major political parties wrapped up their election campaigns for the 13 Lok Sabha seats in Punjab, 10 in Haryana, four in Himachal Pradesh, last two in Jammu and Kashmir and one in Chandigarh seat at 5 p.m. today.

Campaigning in the scorching heat and dust for the final phase of polling for 182 parliamentary seats in 16 states and Union Territories ended today amidst predictions of a hung Parliament.

2 cops killed, 16 poll officials hurt in Doda blasts
Jammu, May 8
Two police personnel were killed and 16 officials on election duty were injured as terrorists threw grenades and exploded IEDs at several places in Doda district to scare the electorate as the campaign for the Udhampur Lok Sabha seat ended today.

It has been a long wait for justice for the family of Chandigarh-born Neerja Bhanot, a senior flight purser with Pan Am, who was killed by terrorists during a hijacking bid in 1986. It was in this city that she did her schooling from Sacred Heart Convent School, and it was here that she was cremated.

Firm indications that the Indo-Pak bonhomie is here to stay were available today as New Delhi decided not to oppose Pakistan’s entry into the ASEAN Regional Forum.

Army has ignored fake killings in the past

The Army may have made attempts to salvage its badly tarnished image by taking disciplinary action against Major Surinder Singh, who had the courage to take on his seniors for the fake killings ordered by them, but the force really does not take seriously such excesses made by its officers in most insurgency-affected areas.
