OFFICE-BEARERS: Following teachers of Hindu College here have been elected office-bearers of the Punjab and Chandigarh College Teachers Union (PCCTU) unit at a meeting held in Hoshiarpur. Prof D.K. Walia — president Prof Sanjeev Sharma - vice-president, Prof Rakesh Joshi - secretary; Prof Anju Mahajan — joint secretary, a press note said here on Monday.

TRAINING CAMP: More than 240 dental surgeons participated in one-day advanced training on ‘aesthetics in Periodontology and smile design’ organised by the Indian Dental Association (IDA) here on Monday. Toppers were awarded certificates and cash prize of Rs 4000 each, informed Dr Puneet Girdhar, secretary IDA.

COURSE: A 21-day general orientation course (GOC) organised by the academic staff college of university and teachers of the state was inaugurated by Prof Batra, Head Guru Ram Das School of Planning, Guru Nanak Dev University on Monday. The course helps develop teacher’s personality.

MOVE TO HELP KIDS: The district hospital welfare section has launched a campaign in the district to provide free shoes, books and school uniforms to students who cannot afford to purchase these. A total of 71 pairs of shoes and uniforms were distributed at Government High School, Brahman Majra, on Tuesday.

BABA HONOURED: Baba Sewa Singh, head Kar Sewa, Khadoor Sahib has been awarded with the “Sarav Uttam Sewa Award” by the World Sikh Sangat, Ludhiana at a function at Khadoor Sahib on Sunday. Mr Sarup Singh, Sikh Scholar, conferred the award on the Baba.

CHARAS SEIZED: the police here on Monday recovered 4.7 kilogram charas from the possession of Iem Singh of Bhatrundi village of Churah tehsil in Chamba district and arrested him under the NDPS Act.

MISHAP: Seven-month-old child Ritika died on the spot when the Tata Sumo she was travelling in overturned near Jwalamukhi. Virender Kumar of Solan driving the vehicle lost control of the vehicle which met with an accident. Mr Virender Kumar, Ms Kalpana and Jogesh Kumar were injured. A case has been registered.
