17 to fight it out for city seat

The stage is set for a fierce contest for the Chandigarh parliamentary constituency on May 10.
Although there are 17 candidates for the predominantly urban constituency, which is also one of the most compact in the country, the electoral battle will virtually be confined to Mr Pawan Bansal (Congress), Mr Satya Pal Jain, (BJP) and Mr Harmohan Dhawan
(INLD).
Jain promises to solve
flat-dwellers’ problems

The BJP candidate for the Chandigarh seat, Mr Satya Pal Jain, today said if he is elected, he will “immediately” solve the problems being faced by people living in flats and houses of the Chandigarh Housing Board in the context of the need-based changes carried out in their houses.

Bansal pulls out good from ‘feel good factor’

Mr Pawan Kumar Bansal, Congress nominee for the Chandigarh parliamentary seat, today criticised the BJP’s propaganda about the so-called “feel good factor” prevailing in the country.

BJP leader lashes out at Bansal
Chandigarh, April 26
The President of the local unit of the BJP, Mr Yash Pal Mahajan, accused Congress nominee Pawan Kumar Bansal of indulging in double talk. He alleged that when the welcome gate of Digamber Jain Temple in Sector 27 was demolished four days ago, Mr Bansal shed crocodile tears and blamed the BJP for this.

HPCL outlet found selling water-mixed petrol
The State-Level Coordinator (Oil Industry), Punjab, in an inquiry conducted recently has found that an HPCL outlet at Daun village in Ropar district was selling petrol adulterated with water. The inquiry was conducted on the instructions of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.
