Jagdish Tytler of the INC has contested all but one Lok Sabha election since 1980. He won three times, lost on three occasions and did not contest once in a career that has spanned 24 years and more. Significantly, he has not won an election in 13 years.

Charging the INC with trying to ‘bribe’ the voters, the BJP candidate in the Outer Delhi parliamentary constituency, Mr Sahib Singh Verma, today said he has complained to the Election Commission as school bags embossed with Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit’s picture were being distributed in the constituency.

Get rid of anti-farmer NDA govt, appeals Cong nominee
Sonepat, April 25
While addressing election meetings in nearly a dozen villages of the Sonepat assembly constituency yesterday, the Congress candidate, Mr Dharam Pal Singh Malik, appealed to the people to vote for the Congress to get rid of the anti-farmer and pro-capitalist BJP-led NDA government at the Centre. The government, he alleged, had ruined the rural economy by pursuing policies benefiting a rich section of society.

DM imposes curbs on indiscriminate use of loudspeaker
Sonepat, April 25
The District Magistrate of Sonepat, Mr M. R. Anand, yesterday exercised the power conferred on him by Article 324 of the Constitution and imposed restrictions on the indiscriminate and unfettered use of loudspeakers at odd hours and at odd places at very high volumes which had the effect of disturbing peace and tranquility and causing annoyance to the people, the sick and the student community in particular during the Lok Sabha elections in this district.

Nine crushed to death under container
New Delhi, April 25
In a freak incident, nine persons, all rickshaw pullers and rag-pickers were killed when a container fell from a moving trawler near the Nigambodh Ghat Ring Road in the Kashmere Gate area of North district last night. The victims, mostly middle-aged persons, died on the spot. None of the victims have been identified yet.

Sonepat, April 25
It is feared that wheat worth several lakhs of rupees packed in gunny bags and lying in the open in various foodgrain markets has been damaged due to the unseasonal rain and hailstorm in this district during the past one week.

Demand for demolition of illegal constructions in Fatehpuri Mosque
New Delhi, April 25
In a letter to the Union Minister for Home Affairs, Mr L.K. Advani, the secretary of the All India Majlis-e-Mushawrat, Mufti Ataur Rahman Qasmi, appealed for the demolition of illegal constructions carried out on the top floor of the Fatehpuri Mosque by its Imam Mohammad Mukarram in his wife’s name. He also appealed that entire matter of illegal construction should be inquired by a senior police officer.

Kidnapped boy rescued
New Delhi, April 25
With the arrest of two persons, including a woman, the Central district police claimed to have rescued a six-year-old boy kidnapped from the Khori Town area of Gurgaon. The child was kidnapped by Asha Rani, resident of Rajasthan on April 9, when the child was playing near the Jhandewalan Temple, in the Pahar Ganj area. The other accused has been identified as one Khem Chand, Asha’s second husband.

Municipal Councillor killed 
Sonepat, April 25
Mr Bijendra Batra, a Municipal Councillor of Sonepat, and his friend, Rakesh Jain, was killed in a road accident on the Delhi-Agra road near Palwal last night. According to a report, both the victims were returning from Gwalior to Sonepat by car, which rammed into a roadside tree.

Double murder solved, two persons arrested
New Delhi, April 25
With the arrest of two persons, the East district police claimed to have solved a double murder, where a 31-year-old woman and her 5-year-old son were brutally killed in the Preet Vihar area on April 22. The accused persons were identified as Neeraj alias Bablu (21) and Ashok (18), both residents of jhuggi cluster in Bhikam Singh colony of Vivek Vihar.

Accident victim denied full compensation 
New Delhi, April 25
A motorcyclist, who met with an accident in East Delhi nearly three years back, has been awarded Rs 3.5 lakh compensation by a city court. However, he would receive only Rs 2,62 lakh, as he was found to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.

NGOs to hold free eye camp on Wednesday
New Delhi, April 25
The Tarun Mitra Parishad and Mitra Sangam will jointly organise a free eye camp at Tagore Public School in Gandhi Nagar on Wednesday. It will be 35th eye camp to be organised by these NGOs. In the camp the medical team of St Stephen’s Hospital will check eye patients and select the patients of cataract for operations, the president of the Tarun Mitra Parishad, Mr Ashok Jain said.

A two-day national conference on hospital waste management was inaugurated in the Army Hospital, Delhi Cantonment. Being organised by the Indian Society for Hospital Waste Management (ISHWM), it is being headed by Lt-Gen J. R. Bhardwaj, Director-General, Armed Forces Medical Services and Chairman of the ISHWM.
