423 persons donate blood at camp

Chandigarh, April 25
As many as 423 persons including 88 women, donated blood at a blood donation camp, organised by the Sant Nirankari Mandal at Nirankari Satsang Bhavan, in Sector 30 here today.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Naranjan Singh, Chairman, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Commission, Punjab, said that blood donation is a veritable proof of human oneness and cosmic unity. Mr Kesho Ram Nanowani, zonal in charge of the Mission, said that six more camps would be organised in the next five months. The camp was inaugurated by Mr A.J. Philip, Senior Associate Editor, The Tribune. As per a release issued by the Mission, Dr S.K. Sharma of Transfusion Medicine, PGI, told the gathering that a slogan “Do not shed blood, donate it”, based on a message of Nirankari Baba, had been coined.

The Spiritual Head of the Nirankari Mission, Baba Hardev Singh, and his wife are regular blood donors.

A congregation addressed by Mr Tarsem Singh, a local Pracharak of the Mission, was also held simultaneously at the Bhavan. He said that religion essentially means the realisation of God and love for every human being.

St Stephen’s lift roller hockey titles

Chandigarh, April 25
St Stephen’s Club, Sector 45, won the under-12 boys and under-14 girls titles in the Chandigarh State Roller Skating Championship which concluded here this evening at the skating rink of KB DAV Centenary School, Sector 7.

A total of 175 city-based skaters from various clubs and institutions took part in the meet. The two-day meet was organised by the Chandigarh Roller Skating Association.

Results: road race I:boys: under six years: Pulkit1, Rajneesh2, Prabhjot Singh 3; six to eight years: Danish1, Gursimran2, Ayush 3; eight to 10 years: Rahul1, Karan2, Sidhant 3; 10 to 12 yrs:Manjit 1, Nikhil 2, Amol 3.

Wrestling tourney

Amit of Weightlifting Coaching Centre, Sector 30, clinched the title in the below 42 kg section in the sub-junior freestyle category while in above 96 kg section, Satinder of SD Club emerged the winner in the junior freestyle category in the Chandigarh Sub-Junior and Junior State Wrestling Championship which concluded today at the WCC, Sector 30. The overall championship was bagged by Weightlifting Coaching Centre, Sector 30. Mr P.L. Paul, vice-president of the association, gave away the prizes.

The Chandigarh taekwondo team secured second place in the first North India Taekwondo Tournament which came to a close this evening at the Tau Devi Lal Sports Complex, Sector 3, Panchkula. Punjab players got first place while Himachal Pradesh got third place.
