Bhiwani, April 23
The district court here today
convicted a father and son of burning to death Suman and sentenced them
to life imprisonment. The Judge passed stricture against sub-inspector
Harbans Lal, who was an investigating officer in the case, stating that
his role was partisan.
According to prosecution, Suman, wife of accused
Gobind Ram, resident of Ram Nagar Colony, Bhiwani, was admitted to local
general hospital on November 25, 2001 with 100 percent burn injuries.
She was soon referred to medical college Rohtak where Chief Judicial
Magistrate, Rohtak recorded her dying declaration wherein the deceased
said that her husband Gobind Ram and father-in-law Prem Sagar poured
kerosene oil upon her and set her on fire.
She said her father had
given dowry but she was tortured for more dowry. The District and
Sessions Judge, R. C Bansal, after hearing both the parties found the
investigating officer unfair in the case.
The court said that the IO
deliberately attempted to convert the case into suicide by recording
statements of one Santosh Devi. The court sentenced the accused father
and son to imprisonment for life under sections 302, 34 of the India
Penal Code and two years rigorous imprisonment.
