Hindon Area clinch

Hindon Area clinched the Western Air Command Inter-Area Handball Championship-2004 from the reigning champion, Chandigarh Area. They defeated the defenders 24-21 in a neck and neck fight during the final match played at 12 Wing Air Force Station here today. At half-time, the score was 7-8 with Chandigarh maintaining the lead of one goal. At the end of the given time, there was a tie with the score being 18 all. In the extra time of 10 minutes, Hindon surged ahead and took the score to 21-19 in the first 5 minutes and maintained the lead to finish with the final score of 24-21. For the winning team, N.K. Malik was the highest scorer with eight goals, followed by R.S. Rawat 6, R. Tanwar 5, Y. Singh 4 and V. Singh 1 goal. Prakash with six goals was the highest scorer for the losers, while R.K. Singh and G.V. Reddy scored 4 goals each and U.C. Dahiya and Jayan scored three goals each. S.K. Gulia also scored 1 goal. Air Officer Commanding, 12 Wing, Air Commodore S.S. Tilloo gave away the prizes to the winners of the championship and declared the meet closed. Tennis team for LahoreA six-member Chandigarh tennis team, including two junior players, will participate in the National Open Grass Court Championships to be played in Lahore Gymkhana from April 25 to May 2. Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association (CLTA) Chairman Rajan Kashyap, Secretary S.M. Sharma, Dr Jasjit Singh and N.M. Janweja will participate in the veterans doubles event. Akash Sharma and Sanjog Kapur would play in the men’s open singles and men’s open doubles.
