2 BANGLADESHIS HELD
: The Border Security Force nabbed two Bangladeshis who entered India from Pakistan in the Ajnala Sector under the Majitha police district on Sunday. Mohammad Hai Harab Ali and Abdul Kadir of Salaony Ganj and Sarab Ganj areas in Bangladesh were arrested by the BSF from Daria Musa Check post in the Ajnala Sector here. The BSF recovered Rs 775 in Pakistani currency, a wrist watch and Pakistan’s identity cards from them. A case under Sections 3, 34, 20 of the Indian Passport Act has been registered.

BAN ORDERS: Mr Ashok Gupta, District Magistrate, on Monday, banned the carrying of firearms ammunition and use of loudspeakers between 10 a.m. and 6 a.m. for two months. Use of orchestras, bands, DJ and loudspeakers, including at religious places, between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. has also been banned. Loudspeakers in the day could be used with permission.

PATIALA
BLOOD DONATION CAMP: The Punjab Bank Employees Federation organised a blood donation camp at Prabhat Parwana Trade Union Centre here on Tuesday. As many as 50 blood donors donated blood. The camp was inaugurated by the General Manager (Operations), State Bank of Patiala, Mr M.M Sehgal. In addition to this, uniforms and books were also distributed to 40 needy and poor students of Shankutala Bal Niketan School along with scholarships was also given to 11 students. 

OPENED: Lord Krishna Bank opened its first branch in the city here on Tuesday. With the opening of this fifth branch in Punjab, the bank’s national network has reached a total of 106 branches.

UPGRADED: The Punjab and Sind Bank, Extension counter, Rajpura, has been upgraded to a full fledged branch here on Monday. The branch was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Tejveer Singh. The Zonal Manager of the bank, Mr H.S Hoon, highlighted the business progress of the bank. The SDM, Rajpura, Mr Navtej Singh, was also present on the occasion.

POLL REHEARSALS: Poll rehearsal for the Phagwara segment of the Phillaur Lok Sabha seat elections would be held April 28, May 4, May 8 and May 9 at Guru Nanak College here on Monday.

CONVOCATION: Degrees were conferred on 262 students of D.A.V. College here at a convocation function on Tuesday by College Managing Committee vice-president Ram Bansal. A Cultural programme was presented by students.

Selected: Mr Piyush Gupta, a member of the Chandigarh Management Association, has been selected to head the training division of the National Institute for Smart Government (NISG), Hyderabad, as General Manager (HRD and Change Management).

Nominated: The president of the Patiala District Congress, Mr Hardyal Singh Kamboj, has nominated Mr Surjit Singh, a resident of Dadu Majra, as the president of kisan wing of the Rajpura block. Mr Balram Sharma, a former Sarpanch of Dadu Majra and senior Congress leader has welcomed Mr Kamboj’s decision.

BANK BRANCH : The State Bank of Patiala on Monday opened its sixth branch in Indira Gandhi Government College at Tohana in this district. Deputy Commissioner Mahtab Singh Sehrawat inaugurated the branch. It is 476th branch of the bank in the country.

Karnal
TRAINING ENDS : A three-week national training programme on Information Resources on Genetics and Documentation Techniques for Livestock Improvement concluded in the National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI) here on Monday. The trainees who had come from Maharashtra, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan, Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir were given intensive laboratory training and field exposure.

SURGERY: A team of doctors of the local Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS), led by Dr S.S. Lochab, professor of cardiac surgery, successfully performed open heart surgery on a four-month-old infant who had holes in his heart since birth. According to a press note issued by the PGIMS here on Tuesday, open heart surgery on infants is a rare process performed at selective medical centres in the country. Dr Vishal Dheer and Dr S. K. Singhal of the anaesthesia department assisted Dr Lochab.

Kangra
NINE HELD: The police here arrested nine persons including one woman for illicit distillery at several places in the district, said Kangra district police chief S. Zahoor H. Zaidi on Monday.

Kumarhatti
MISHAP: Sunil from Parwanoo was killed when Maruti van (HR-49-1848) driven by him hit a rock near Jabli on the Kalka- Shimla national highway on Monday. The police said he lost control of the vehicle. He was taken to the ESI hospital where he died.

SUICIDE: Aziz Muhhamed (26) committed suicide by hanging himself in a cowshed of his house at Patta Browary , 20 km from Subathu on Sunday. Aziz was upset for the past three-four months. The body was handed over to his parents after a post-mortem examination at Community Health Centre, Dharampur.

WELFARE ASSOCIATION: The following have been elected office-bearers of the Residents Welfare Association, Phase-III, New Shimla. president- Mr Manmohan Jassal; senior vice-president- Dr Ravinder Mokta; general secretary- Mr Pankaj Dadwal joint secretary- Mr Parveen Verma; and finance secretary- Mr Kaushlesh Kapoor.

TWO HELD FOR MURDER: The police here arrested Kali Ram and Jagdish Chand of nearby Jadhana village, currently posted in the State Education Department at Shimla for killing Nand Lal of Jokhaghati on April 8.
